Today we remember that two years ago Des Moines Police Sergeant Tony Beminio and Urbandale Police Officer Justin Martin lost their lives in the line of duty. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families and members of the Des Moines Police Department and Urbandale Police Department.

Rockafellow passed away at his home on October 2, 2018. He began his law enforcement career with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office in 1987, which lasted over 27 years.

Law enforcement all across the state seem to have more and more interactions with people driving at high rates of speed. Here is a case where this speed was recorded on a two-lane highway in rural Johnson County yesterday. We believe the Iowa Legislature should change the law to make sure that high speeds are recognized as reckless driving.

Schools are starting up again and you are likely to cross paths with a school bus. This article from the Iowa DOT has some good reminders for drivers and students.

We loved seeing all the families and friends that came to visit us at City Park for Kids Day this week. We enjoy answering questions and allowing all ages to check out the squad car we call a mobile office. Kids of all ages enjoyed the delicious donuts from Hurts Donuts!

Come join us tomorrow evening at Upper City Park in Iowa City for Kids Day. Bring the kids to explore emergency vehicles and meet local first responders and then devour a delicious Hurts Donut! While you're there, soak up $2 pool admission to City Park Pool. It's really a win/win situation. Hope to see you there!

The 1st Annual ButterBurgers and Badges event at Coralville Culver's was a hit! Area law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes served customers and so many customers graciously made donations to support local Special Olympics athletes. We thank the staff of Coralville Culver's for allowing us to serve alongside them and showing us genuine hospitality. Over $1,000 was raised in 4 short hours! Well done Johnson County!

Join area law enforcement officers at the Iowa City and Coralville Culver’s for the First Annual ButterBurgers® and Badges event! Local law enforcement will be helping serve food, bussing tables, and collecting donations for Special Olympics Iowa from 4-8 p.m. $1 from each concrete mixer sold on that day will also be donated to Special Olympics.

It was a great week for the Johnson County Fair. Deputy Lenz and Echo were at our fair booth. Deputy Shirkey was on tattooing duty while Sgt. Gingerich and Deputy Gleason placed first and second, respectively, in the Celebrity Division of the rubber chicken throwing contest. Meanwhile, Deputy Pearson made an arrest over in the North arena during the Celebrity Bucket Bottle Calf competition.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office team 'Pulling Pork' placed 3rd at the Pulling for Honor event on Saturday! We would like to thank everyone who donated and came to support the team.
