Updated Move over law took effect July 1st.
Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff. Application deadline is March 14th by 4:30 p.m.
The Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant this afternoon. The following items were seized and brought to the sheriff’s office. If you’re missing a McCulloch Power MAC 310 chainsaw, Homelite chainsaw, Tool Shop circular saw, Tool Shop 5 gallon air tank or a Sig Sauer X-5 air powered pellet gun contact the office 641-622-2727.
The Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office is taking applications for Full time and Part time Jailer/Dispatcher positions. Application deadline is December 22nd at 4:00 p.m.

A suspect in the December, 2015 and January, 2016 burglaries that had occurred near the city of Hedrick has been arrested. Deputies following up on their investigation were able to link the suspect to the offense with recently uncovered evidence. The suspect was discovered in Monroe County where he was arrested. The Keokuk County Sheriff's Office would like to extend their gratitude to those of you who contacted us with information pertaining to these incidents. *ALL SUSPECTS ARE INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.*

FEES/OPTIONS – WEAPONS PERMITS EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 2015 Option 1 Carry Permit With Laminated Card: $60.00 NEW All permits issued back in 2011 will expire in 2016. If you allow your current permit to EXPIRE, bring in your expired permit and apply for a NEW permit by filling out the application and we will run a background check. If the training certificate or DD-214 you used for your initial permit is on file with the Sheriff, it can be used again for this new permit. You will be issued a photo ID carry permit and/or a paper copy carry permit good for 5 years with any NEW/RENEW. The price for a paper only NEW permit is $50.00. Option 2 Carry Permit With Laminated Card: $35.00 RENEW The State of Iowa REQUIRES you to have TRAINING WITHIN 12 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE EXPIRATION DATE OF YOUR CURRENT PERMIT AND YOU MUST APPLY WITH THE SHERIFF AT LEAST 30 DAYS PRIOR to the current expiration date of your current permit. The INSTRUCTOR MUST BE NRA CERTIFIED OR ILEA CERTIFIED. This means in order to get your permit issued at a lower cost, you will be required to take an additional training course. Keep in mind you will pay a minimum of $15.00 to re-take another class. DUPLICATE Carry Permits With Laminated Card: $35.00 This includes permits which are lost or misplaced and need replaced. Name changes due to marriage or a new address within KEOKUK COUNTY are also available for this cost. PERMITS TO ACQUIRE: $5.00 This is a paper permit only with a 3 day waiting period. This is good for 1 year. *Carry Permits are also good for acquiring* PERMITS ISSUED MONDAY – FRIDAY FROM 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE AT 641-622-2727 TO INQUIRE IF WE HAVE A COPY OF YOUR TRAINING CERTIFICATE ON FILE. Public service announcement...... Parents if you give your child a cell phone that is no longer activated to play with and it powers up, 911 can still be dialed. Our dispatchers field numerous 911 calls weekly that when answered they hang up and there's no way of calling them back. Educate your children the seriousness of calling 911 for real emergencies. The sheriff's office is investigating 3 overnight burglaries. 2 occurred in the City of Richland at Mike's Autobody and the Richland Vet Clinic. The 3rd burglary happened at the Hedrick City Hall building at around 3 a.m. this morning. If anyone has any information regarding these burglaries please call the sheriff's office at 641-622-2727
