***UPDATED May 29, 2018*** Since this homicide occurred, Davenport Police detectives have been actively working this case following investigative leads, interviewing people who knew Jovontia and examining forensic evidence. We know there are people in our community who know what happened in this shooting and have the information that will allow our detectives to close this case and make our neighborhoods safer. The victim has been identified as Jovontia Jones, age 16, of Davenport. This is an ongoing investigation and no other details are available at this time. ***Original Release – May 19, 2018*** On Saturday May 19, 2018 at approximately 1855 hours, Units from the Davenport Police Department were dispatched to the 1300 block of Harrison St, in reference to a report of shots fired. Officers arrived in the area and discovered shell casings on Harrison St, in the 1200 block. As Officers investigated this incident a gunshot victim arrived at Genesis East for treatment by a private vehicle. A Juvenile male victim sustained life threatening injuries as a result of this incident. The victim was transported to the University of Iowa Medical Center for further treatment of his injuries. The investigation continues into this incident. #DPDMediaRelease: Update: 5/24/18 An autopsy was conducted today on the body recovered on May 23, 2018, from the Mississippi River near the Credit Island causeway, and has been identified as Timothy Maxwell, 60 of Bettendorf, Iowa. No foul play is suspected. No further information will be released. Release: May 23, 2018 On Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at approximately 10:57 AM a fisherman located a body floating in the river near the Credit Island causeway. The body was recovered by the Davenport Fire Department and Iowa DNR. The body was an adult male and an autopsy is being scheduled. Any further updates will be sent when they become available. Release: May 19, 2018 Davenport Fire crews were called to the Davenport Sailing Club, 1225 E River Drive, shortly before 9:30 AM Saturday morning to assist with looking for an individual that was missing. Davenport Police officers were also on scene. Davenport Fire District Chief Neil Gainey says the probability was high that the subject fell in the Mississippi River. Crews from Davenport Fire, Bettendorf, Rock Island Arsenal, Moline, East Moline, Department of Natural Resources and Coast Guard all supplied boats and equipment to look for the individual. The dive team from Big River rescue also assisted in the afternoon. The subject was not found. The family was on scene all day and fully advised of the efforts and results. The individual is not being identified at this time. Future searches will depend on weather and river conditions.

On Wednesday May 23, 2018 at approximately 9:15AM Davenport Police responded to the Mississippi River near the I-280 Bridge reference to a caller who spotted a vehicle floating in the river. The Davenport Fire Department and Divers from Big River Rescue recovered the vehicle from the river. The vehicle was a Nissan sedan that was reported stolen out of West Liberty, Iowa on May 23, 2018. Detectives are following up on this incident. These are two separate incidents; the body recovered from the River is not related to the recovered stolen vehicle.

#DPDMediaRelease: On Monday, May 21st, 2018 at approximately 3:58 pm several Davenport Police Units responded to the 1500 block of Esplanade Ave reference the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, Officers canvassed the area and found several shell casings in middle of the west alley. A house and a garage in the neighborhood along with a vehicle sustained damage as the result of the shooting. No injuries were reported. Follow-up is being done on this incident. The Davenport Police Memorial was held yesterday to remember our fallen, and to honor those who serve. Those remembered for giving the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty were Emil Speth EOW 1/26/1917, Bernard Geerts EOW 7/16/1928, William Jurgens EOW 7/16/1958, and Michael Farnsworth EOW 12/5/1971.

#DPDMediaRelease: On Monday, May 14, 2018, at approximately 12:58 AM Officers responded to the area of 2600 W Central Park Ave reference to a gunshot victim. Preliminary information indicated that the victim was involved in a physical altercation with another subject which escalated into shots being fired. Officers canvassed the area for additional information. The victim was transported by Medic to Genesis Medical Center with serious injuries. The victim is an adult male from Davenport. No other injuries were reported. Detectives are following up on the incident. No further information is available at this time.
