Coles County, IL – The Coles County Sheriff’s Investigations is still seeking community help in the March 1974, Cold Case murder of Linda D. Shriver from Mattoon, IL. She was a graduate of Mattoon High School class of 1970, only 23 years of age at the time of her murder. She was described by many as kind, innocent, and having “excellent moral conduct.” She was last seen in Mattoon, IL “cruising” in her light blue 1969 Mercury Montego 4 door. This case is over 40 years old; multiple people were interviewed, and suspects generated. Witness recalls seeing men trying to enter her vehicle. It is our hope to re-interview people with information during that time. This includes their families or people whom they may have confided in over the years. People with the best knowledge of the case may not be active on social media, so please share our request with older family members and friends. If you do not have firsthand information about her death but have information on people who may, we welcome any credible lead. No lead is insignificant; if you have moved out of the area and were interviewed in the past please contact us to update your information. We request that you mail or email a brief summary of the information and a contact number. Leads will be reviewed and placed in order of priority. If you do not have access to email you may call during normal business hours (217-348-0588). Upon request, your personal information will remain confidential.
