Overnight, Chicago police and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms continued a series of precision raids on individuals suspected of participating and furthering gang-affiliated organized crime throughout Chicago. (Photos attached). The initiatives are part of the joint CPD and federal law enforcement anti-violence efforts focused around the Memorial Day weekend.
Offenses included weapons violations, prostitution, narcotics dealing and possession.
As of 4am Friday:
71 individuals have been arrested (charges pending)
13 weapons have been seized
7 search warrants executed
2 vehicles seized
$55,650.00 in US currency seized
1 business closed
Officers from the Area South Gang Team also raided a child daycare facility in 1000 BLK of W Marquette Rd that was being used as a gun stash house. 4 handguns and a large amount of ammunition were taken from the daycare. An adult female person of interest was also taken into police custody for questioning. No children were at the facility at the time of the raid and CPD has contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for follow up on the license.
The roundups, which began early yesterday morning, will continue throughout today and stretch across the north, south and west side of the city.
This afternoon, Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson will join the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI, Jeffrey Salette and Special Agent in Charge of the ATF, Celinez Nunez to brief reporters on the final results of the raids.
