The 3rd annual Worth Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.) #143 Golf Outing is scheduled for Saturday, June 9th at Waters Edge Golf Course. So whether you’re interested in playing alongside your favorite WPD Officers, sponsoring a hole, or donating a gift basket to be entered into the evening raffle, contact the Worth Police Department at 708-923-7519. The Worth Police Department would like to congratulate Officer Franczyk, Officer Robles, and Officer Winiarczyk on graduating from the Chicago Metro Police Academy (Class 18-101). Officers Franczyk, Robles, and Winiarczyk were joined by Chief Micetich, Deputy Chief Denton, Village Clerk Bonnie Price and Village President Mary Werner for their pinning ceremony and graduation commencement. The three new Patrolmen will now begin a 16-week Field Training Program, where they will be assigned to three veteran Field Training Officers who will evaluate their progress on a daily basis. Upon successful completion of the Field Training Program, Officers Franczyk, Robles, and Winiarczyk will be certified for solo patrol. We wish the three of you a long, successful career with the Worth Police Department.

This year marks the 16th anniversary of the Dunkin’ Donuts #CopOnARooftop event with the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Prior to today’s event, this great partnership raised over 3.9 million dollars for the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois. Today’s event in Worth raised a record-setting $5,138.27 in just over six hours! On behalf of the WPD family, we would like to thank the community of Worth, Kohl's Volunteer Program, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Park Lawn Charity, and DJ Real Co. for their part in today’s memorable experience. Today’s event would not be possible without the generosity of Dunkin' Coffee. We hope you all had as much fun as we did!

On the morning of Friday, May 4th, 2018, Investigator Travis Pirtle was promoted to the rank of Sergeant for the Worth Police Department. Pirtle began his law enforcement career with the Worth Police Department in June of 2011, where he served as a Patrolman. In the Spring of 2014, Pirtle was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit, where he fulfilled the role of Investigator through April of 2018. Sergeant Pirtle will begin his new supervisory role in the Patrol Division, where he will oversee street-level daily operations. Congratulations on your well-deserved promotion, Sergeant Pirtle!

To kick off the Spring season, the Worth Police Department joined forces with law enforcement officers from nearly a dozen south suburban municipalities at the annual Special Olympics Illinois Spring Games, hosted by Thornwood High School. Today’s event, which is one of 19 held throughout Illinois, features over 1,000 Special Olympics Athletes who will compete for the opportunity to qualify for the Special Olympics Summer Games, held in Bloomington, June 15th - 17th. Today’s event recognized the organization’s 50th anniversary, which has evolved from 1,000 athletes statewide, to over 23,000 athletes today. On behalf of the WPD family, we would like to congratulate all of today’s participants and thank you for such a memorable experience!

Each year, on the first Thursday of May, the Illinois Police Officers Memorial Committee holds an annual ceremony to pay tribute to the fallen officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Hundreds of Police Officers from across the state lined the streets Springfield this morning to honor the fallen and join their loved ones in prayer. At the conclusion of this morning’s prayer service, Police Officers and supporters filed into the main hall of the Illinois State Library, where they were addressed by State Officials. Following today’s ceremony, the names of the six fallen heroes from 2017 will be added to the Police Officer Memorial statue, located on the west lawn of the State Capitol grounds.

At last night’s Village Board Meeting, the Village of Worth said farewell to Sergeant Keith Krummick. Krummick began his law enforcement career with the Worth Police Department in March of 1989. Throughout his early years as a Patrolman, Officer Krummick quickly emerged as a leader and gained the respect of the community, as well as his peers. After several years in the Patrol Division, Krummick was appointed to the position of Investigator within the department’s Criminal Investigations Unit. After serving several years as an Investigator, Krummick stepped away from Investigations and returned to Patrol. In 1997, Krummick was promoted to the rank of Patrol Sergeant, where he served as a street supervisor for daily operations. Sergeant Krummick’s guidance proved to be instrumental in the development of a widely-respected Patrol Division, consisting of new and veteran Officers. In 2010, Sergeant Krummick was selected by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to serve as a Task Force Officer under the U.S. Department of Justice to combat the use and sales of illegal narcotics. On behalf of the WPD family, we want to thank Sergeant Krummick for his 29 years of service. Enjoy retirement, Keith!

The WPD Investigations Division had a great time hosting Cub Scout Pack #3668 for "Forensic Night"! The Scouts learned how to photograph a crime scene, dust for fingerprints, collect footwear impressions, and package evidence.

This past Saturday, members of the Worth Police Department participated in the 2018 Polar Plunge, presented by Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics and GEICO. Over the past several weeks, the WPD family raised over $3,700.00 in the form of 80+ donations, which more than tripled last year's efforts. These generous donations from family, friends, and local businesses distinguished the Worth Police Department among the top 8 fundraising departments at Saturday's event, which included over 50+ teams who participated. We would like to express a special thanks to each and every donor who contributed to this great cause and we're already looking forward to next year! #FreezinForAReason

On Sunday March 25th, the Worth Police Department will be hosting a FREE Child Safety Seat Check in the parking lot of the Worth Village Hall. Certified Child Safety Seat Technicians will be on hand to answer questions, check for seat recalls, and assist with making sure seats are correctly installed. Last night, Officers Joel and Roberto Frias played in the 6th Annual SSSRA (South Suburban Special Recreation Association) and Police Officer Basketball Game, hosted by the Matteson Community Center. The Frias brothers joined forces with members of the Matteson, Palos Park, and Park Forest Police Department and played alongside the SSSRA Stingrays in their season finale. At the conclusion of last night's game, each Law Enforcement Officer who participated was presented with a medal from a Special Olympics Athlete competing for the Stingrays. #ILTorchRun #SpecialOlympics

It's that time of year again! On Saturday, March 3rd, members of the Worth Police Department will be participating in the 2018 Special Olympics Illinois Polar Plunge, in Manteno, Illinois. The Polar Plunge, presented by Law Enforcement Torch Run and GEICO, is held at 23 locations statewide with all proceeds directly supporting more than 22,000 traditional athletes and 20,000 Special Olympics Young Athletes. Since it's inception in 1999, more than 66,000 plungers have participated in the event, raising over 18.4 million dollars.
