On Monday, October 8, 2018 between the hours of 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, person(s) drove recklessly in the area of Highway 45 and Northline Road, Tuscola, Illinois 61953. During this time, a driver did doughnuts in the parking lot of a business causing rocks to be thrown against cars there. This action caused significant damage to the inventory. Any person having any information on this crime, observed any vehicles in the area during that time, or any information that can assist law enforcement in the investigation of this crime or any felony crimes within Douglas County may call Crime Stoppers at1- 800-280-8316 or email Crime Stoppers at CrimeStoppers@DouglasCountyil.com. Callers do not have to give their name and they may be eligible for a cash reward if the information leads to the arrest of the person (s) responsible for this crime or any felony crime in Douglas County.
Shiloh school will hold an emergency evacuation DRILL today starting at 10:30. Again this only a DRILL.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office would like to correct misinformation being put out. There is no felony warrant being sought for a Terry Southard. The Villa Grove police were called to investigate the situation in Villa Grove earlier today. During that investigation it was determined that there was no crime being committed. Although assistance has been provided to the family no criminal investigation is occurring as far as we have been told. There is no court order in place forbidding the father from having his child. Contact has been made with all parties involved, including the courts, attorneys, and DCFS, and again there is no criminal act or warrants as a result. We thank the community for their help and assistance and for spreading the post however these post have caused a great deal of misinformation and or work to the 911 Center in dispatch and we hope that this clarifies or clears up any and all questions.
Frontier 9-1-1 has advised us there is a Frontier landline outage that is affecting 356 customers in the Newman area. At this time, there is not an ETA for restoration. However, they do have a tech en route and will update us accordingly. Cell phone service is NOT affected by this outage and can still be used to call 9-1-1 for emergencies. We will keep you adv of changes.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in the investigation of a residential burglary that occurred in the rural Oakland/Newman area during March 10th and March 18th, 2018. The burglary occurred at a residence on 2560 E. approximately one and half miles northeast of Walnut Point. Items taken during the burglary included several Heisey Baskets, model trains, dining tables and chairs, hutches, and book shelves. GRAPHIC BUT NECESSARY PHOTO INCLUDED: The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance with any information pertaining to the previous ownership of a female, Lab/Mastiff mix, large breed, dog that was found dumped on the side of a county road near Arcola. The dog was located, deceased, on the side of the road with obvious signs of neglect and malnourished. Any information of the dogs possible owner is needed. Any motorist passing by the area of 1100 E Highway 133 (1 mile east of Arcola) on March 28th, 2018 during the morning hours that may have seen any vehicles stopped just off the highway is also welcome. If a caller wishes to remain anonymous they can contact Douglas County Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-280-8316 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Callers do not have to give their name and there may be a cash reward if the information provided leads to the arrest of the person responsible for any felony crimes.
ILLINOIS SHERIFFS’ ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIPS The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association announces that it will be awarding $53,500.00 in college scholarships throughout the State of Illinois to students wishing to pursue higher education during the 2018-2019 academic year. The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books and fees only. The student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within the State of Illinois. Sheriff Fred Galey of Douglas County, will be awarding 1 scholarship in the amount $500.00. There will be no restriction on any applicant by reason of race, age, creed, color, sex or national origin. The only limitations are as follows: • Applicants must be permanent Illinois residents • Scholarships must be utilized at institutions of higher . learning within the State of Illinois. • Students must be enrolled as a full-time student during . the 2018 - 2019 school year. (excluding summer session) Applications are now available at your local Sheriff’s office or on the ISA Website www.ilsheriff.org. Students must complete the application; answer the essay question and return all documentation to the Sheriff’s office in their permanent county of residence by March 15, 2018 (must be postmarked by this date).
