SCAM ALERT It has been brought to our attention that there is a new scam circulating. The scam poses as Wal-Mart stating that you have won a new car and money but you must first pay the fee of $500.00. Please do not give out any personal information over the phone.

This week is School Bus Safety week. Please use caution when driving near or around our school buses. When the red flashing lights and stop arms are out, it is against the law to pass a stopped school bus from either direction. Illinois law provides that the driving privileges of a person convicted of passing a stopped school bus will be suspended for three months for the first offense and one year for the second, if the second conviction occurs within five years. Additionally, the fine for a first conviction is $150 and $500 for a second or subsequent conviction. Thanks for keeping our kids safe Sheriff Chris Smith

HALLOWEEN SAFETY: I know we are a little early but I want parents to be informed on the safety tools we have available for them. We have around 75 registered sex offenders living within our county. I want parents to know where they reside so children can avoid those houses when trick or treating. On our website www. fayettecountyillinois.org under County Sheriff we have a link to Offender Watch. Parents please view the mapping and address feature found on the site. Parents can also sign up for free automatic email notifications informing them if a sex offender moves into their area. I encourage everyone to have a a fun and safe Halloween. Knowledge is power and knowing where the registered sex offenders reside in your area can help you make the best choices for a safe and enjoyable Halloween. Thanks for helping keep our children safe. Sheriff Chris Smith
