Scam alert The Sheriffs office has received multiple reports of people receiving telephone calls stating there grandchildren are in jail and are needing bond money. The caller is requesting you to send money transfers or gift cards to be used for the bond. The callers are mainly targeting the elderly. Please inform your parents and grandparents to never send any money to an unknown person. These callers are very persuasive and pull at the heart strings of people. Call your local police department before ever sending any money for bond of another person

It's that time of year - HARVEST TIME ! ! ! As harvest begins and steadily builds, Motorists are reminded that slow moving farm equipment will be moving from field locations throughout the County. PLEASE SLOW DOWN and be considerate of those who are working long hours to get the job done; sometimes overnight, before dawn or after darkness falls. Continue to be ever mindful that some equipment is over-sized, taking up most of the road on Township Rds. and even on State Highways. PLEASE given them some room!

*** AREAL FLASH FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES *** The NWS has continued an AREAL Flood Warning and ADDED A FLASH FLOOD WATCH beginning at 0100 Wednesday thru Thursday at 1300. Saturated ground after 4" of rainfall recently and potential of another 2" added with the approaching storm system means that run-off will likely occur again exacerbating small tributaries, creeks, streams and other low-lying water-prone areas. REMEMBER: It only takes 6" of swift water to knock you off balance and knock you off your feet... 10" to float your car AND.... 12" to float a Bus

***Special Weather Statement*** Although rain is falling gently now, the NWS has issued an advisory statement that the rain will continue and may be followed by periods of intense THUNDERSTORMS late in the day and during the evening hours. We presently are in the "Slight Risk" area. Remember that these storms are moving from SW to NE at a very slow pace. The risk during these storms may be from intense cloud to ground lightening, locally heavy rainfall, high wind gusts and hail. The "Moderate Risk" area is just East of us (Macoupin County) so anything is possible if and when the frontal boundary shifts Keep in mind that the present forecast calls for rain off and on the next few days - some of it with storms. The predicted total by cycle end is 3-4 INCHES to ground already becoming saturated. Local flooding of small streams, tributaries and creeks is expected.

***HAZARDOUS WEATHER STATEMENT*** HEIGHTENED FIRE DANGER Due to extremely dry conditions, continued low humidity & gusty winds likely on Friday, there exists A DANGER IN UNATTENDED BURNING throughout West Central IL. Fire Officials & Law Enforcement agree that BURNING OF ANY KIND DURING THE NEXT 24 TO 48 HRS. IS UNADVISED! WEATHER FORECAST - Snow is likely across the region beginning late Friday night and into Saturday. Accumulations are forecast between 1-3 Inches likely making roadways & sidewalks slick! Further... REMEMBER A FEW SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: -Wipers needed -HEADLIGHTS ON TOO- (it's the law) -Leave earlier than normal & take your time- SLOW DOWN -Allow extra room between cars for stopping distance -ALWAYS BUCKLE EVERYONE, EVERY TIME, EVERYWHERE IN YOUR CAR!
