Great turnout today at the Bridgewood Community Center with Safety Pup "Sergeant", Murphysboro Police Chief Chad Roberts, Lt. Michael Laughland, Sgt. Craig Smelter, Michael Bergant from Murphysboro Crime Stoppers, and the Jackson County Housing Authority (JCHA). The community enjoyed hot dogs, soda, and chips while talking with the officers and staff about the future of the Bridgewood community, including more proactive ways the citizens and officers can work together. The kids enjoyed coloring books, stickers, and anti-bullying gear. The Murphysboro Police Department and JCHA would like to extend a warm thank you to everyone who came and beat the heat to enjoy the afternoon with them. We look forward to more community gatherings like this.

The Murphysboro Water Department is aware of no water pressure in the areas of Country Club Road, Pump House Road and Wood Road etc. However, that water system is maintained by the Murdale Water District (618) 684-8039. They are aware of the issue and will be determining the cause. No ETA on repairs.

When confronted, the sales people claim to be licensed to engage in this activity. These persons are not licensed solicitors in the City of Murphysboro. City ordinance prohibits peddling without a license.

On Tuesday, May 15, 2018, the Murphysboro Police Department arrested Daron Curtis Smith, date of birth 01-10-2000, of the 2000 block of Division Avenue, Murphysboro, Illinois, for Attempted Residential Burglary. The charge stems from the series of residential burglaries occurring May 10 and May 11, 2018. Smith was one of two suspects pictured in the photos previously released by the department on May 14, 2018. Smith has been confined to the Jackson County Jail.

Media Release Scott Anthony Evans Wanted for Residential Burglary and Violation of Sex Offender Registration Scott Anthony Evans, white male, date of birth 09-26-1983, is wanted by the Murphysboro Police Department on charges of Residential Burglary and Violation of Sex Offender Registration. Evans is 5โ€™08โ€ tall and weighs 135 pounds. Evans has brown hair and blue eyes. Evansโ€™ last known address is 501 N. Stephen Drive, Murphysboro, Illinois. Evans is believed to be in the Murphysboro area and is aware he is wanted by the Murphysboro Police Department. Murphysboro Police would like to congratulate Chase Rednour. Officer Rednour graduated today from the Police Training Institute located in Champaign, Illinois. The 14-week, 560-hour basic law enforcement course (BLE) exceeds the requirements set by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board for all new police officers in the State of Illinois. Officer Rednour will begin patrolling the city of Murphysboro starting Monday.

Sergeant the Safety Pup visited Aden Prudencio and his PreK class at St Andrew's school today. Aden and his class got to enjoy a pizza party today with Sergeant the Safety Pup after Adens name "Sergeant" was chosen during last months competition.

Civilian Response to Active Shooter Event Training Offered Free of Charge The Murphysboro Police Department is offering instructional classes; free to all citizens, businesses and organizations in the city; on the ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) training for civilians. This class, known as C.R.A.S.E. (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events), is the Department of Justice recognized training for civilians. The class is approximately two hours in length and covers the history of these events, how to protect yourself and your organization, how to survive and what to expect from law enforcement during the response. Since introducing the class two weeks ago, we have already trained over 100 citizens and want to train hundreds more! If you are interested in hosting a class for your organization, please e-mail Chief Roberts at policechief@murphysboro.com to schedule the event. We ask classes be at least 10 attendees and no more than 75.

Keirn, Region Five Engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation announces that there will be a daytime road closure at the railroad bridge over IL 149 west of Murphysboro. Beginning Friday, April 20th through Thursday, April 26th, crews from the Union Pacific Railway will be driving piling for the new bridge during day light hours only. IL 149 will be open during night time hours. There will be no traffic permitted through the work area during the repairs. Motorists should follow the marked detour or seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
