Southern Illinois University Carbondale Department of Public Safety Parking Division has announced an exciting change to its parking system. A new app is available to pay for parking in pay station locations across campus. The new application is called Whoosh! The Whoosh! mobile phone app can be downloaded from the App Store onto an iPhone or from the Google Play Store onto an Android device. Users register their license plates and credit card with the Whoosh! system through the app or through www.whooshstore.com. No worries if you do not have an iPhone or Android device. Whoosh! is also accessible by visiting the mobile web site - m.whooshstore.com. To pay for parking with Whoosh!, you simply open the app on your phone, select your vehicle, select the parking location, enter your space number, and choose the amount of time you wish to park. When your parking session is about to expire, the application can send a reminder via text message. With Whoosh! you can extend their parking session from anywhere up to the maximum amount of allowable time. A nominal convenience fee of $0.35 is added to each parking transaction for use of the app.

SIU Alert: February 19, 2018 Members of the SIU Carbondale Community, You are receiving this message as part of Southern Illinois University's commitment to provide campus-area crime information in compliance with the federal Clery Act, formally known as the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. The SIU Carbondale Department of Public Safety received a Campus Security Authority report of a possible Criminal Sexual Assault and Trespass to Residence in the 400 block of West Freeman Street off campus. The report was made on 02/19/18. The suspect unlawfully entered the residence with his face covered and took actions to lead the victim to believe she was going to be sexually assaulted. The victim did not suffer any physical injuries. The suspect is described as a black male, 6'0" tall, heavy-set build, light brown eyes, wearing dark grey sweat pants, a grey fleece hooded sweatshirt and a ski mask with an SIU logo covering his face. The suspect is also described as having a unique accent. The City of Carbondale Police Department is investigating this incident. Crime prevention and awareness, as well as timely reporting, may be the strongest defenses against becoming the victim of an assault. Report suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
