With Halloween festivities beginning, we start getting questions regarding registered sex offenders participating in Halloween activities. According to their registration, offenders are not allowed to participate in “trick-or-treating” or any other holiday activities for children under 18 years old. This includes passing out candy or having their porch light on. Residents at a sex offender’s home can participate as long as the offender is not at home. Addresses of offenders living in Macomb can be located at www.isp.state.il.us/sor . The Macomb Police Department performs sex offender compliance checks throughout the year and will be performing covert checks during the Halloween season to ensure compliance.

The Macomb Police Department along with Ameren Illinois officials and Macomb Downtown Development met with several local businesses on the square to make them aware of scam calls being made. Ameren wants everyone to be aware of people calling local businesses and residences posing as Ameren Employees. The phone caller informs the business that their power is going to be turned off if they do not pay a certain amount of money. The caller always wants paid by using a green dot prepaid credit card. Ameren wants everyone to know that they do not operate in this manner so be suspicious of calls like these.

Sgt Lipcamon is helping a stranded motorist. He's probably one of our most handy "car guys". Ultimately, the car wouldn't start, but Sgt loaded baby and groceries and drove them home. Special thanks to Sloane, the man in the red shirt, and his family for helping as well.

Come join us for some wings while we help raise funds for a great cause!!

Sgt. Chris Butcher has been working with Scott Coker, Director of Public Works, Father Adam Stimpson, and Principal Laura Cody to increase safety at St. Paul's Pre-School. Recently a solar powered LED school zone sign has been installed. The sign is programmed to flash at departure and arrival times for the pre-school and elementary schools. The sign is in the middle of the 300 block of W. Washington. The school provided the white St. Paul Preschool sign to make motorists and residents aware of the pre-school's location. The End Speed Zone sign was added to "book end" the engineering efforts. All of this was done to increase safety for the children arriving and departing the schools. MPD raises awareness of these events to educate the motoring public so they can make safe driving decisions. MPD also takes the opportunity to take enforcement in school zones when necessary.
