The Fox River Grove Police Department is proud to support our local Cary-Grove High School Drama 2018 fall play, The Laramie Project, by Moises Kaufman and the Tectonic Theater Project. Recently named by the New York Times as one of the 25 most influential plays of the last 25 years, The Laramie Project tells the true story of the citizens of Laramie, Wyoming as they deal with the aftermath of the brutal 1998 murder of 21-year-old college student Matthew Shepard. After Matthew’s murder, members of the Tectonic Theater Project in New York City traveled to Laramie to interview residents about how the attack affected the town. These transcripts were transformed into The Laramie Project, which tells the stories of the real people who lived at the epicenter of one of the nation’s most heinous anti-gay hate crimes. Actors portray over 60 characters as they follow the town of Laramie in the days immediately following the crime through the trial of the two young men who committed the murder. Throughout, the actors illustrate how fear, prejudice, hate, and intolerance can affect our society.
