Ok people need help once again today. Have a couple of mules and a couple of horses that decided to wonder off during the night in the Eddyville area. If you see them please call the office at 683-4321
The Sheriffs office took a call this morning reporting that a painted mare had been found near Eddyville. The couple have her secured and in their barn. If you know where she might belong, call the Sheriffs office. 683-4321
Between the dates of June 4th and June 8th, there were two kayaks taken without permission out of the local area. One kayak was blue and the other was orange. If you have any information regarding these two items, please contact us at 618-683-4321. Thank you.

Pope County Sheriff's Department has be advised of the following: Beginning Monday, April 16, 2018 at 8:00 A.M., IL 34 will be closed 0.4 miles east of Karbers Ridge Road in Hardin County. This closure is necessary to facilitate the repair of a drainage structure. The road is expected to be open by 5:00 P.M. on Friday, April 20, 2018. Motorists should use the marked detour or seek an alternate route.

As of 2-28-18 at 4pm Bay City Road south of intersection of Homburg Road is closed due to water levels.
Reports from the road district are that Bay Valley Rd has water over it. Please use alternate route.
Road District # 1 will be closing Clanahan Hill Road at the Bay City Rd end around 4 PM today due to rising water.
Pope County Sheriff Jerry Suits is requesting your assistance. Gary A. Roepke who resides at 248 Trail of Tears Road reported an 8 foot fence cut on his pen raised deer operation. This occurred approximately one week ago. Mr. Roepke found a hole in the fence and six deer were missing. Four deer have returned. Two deer are still missing. Mr. Roepke is offering a $1,000.00 reward for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons that cut his fence. Pope County Sheriff Jerry Suits is requesting assistance concerning a Residential Burglary in Rural Pope County during the daylight hours of July 7, 2017. Sheriff Suits has indicated that on July 7th he was dispatched to a residence in the Dixon Springs community of Rural Pope County concerning a Residential Burglary. Sheriff Suits indicated that upon arrival he met with the owners of the residence at this location who advised of their new metal pole barn being entered without permission or authority taking items with a value of approximately $15, 000.00. Items identified taken by thieves were a brand new 60 inch 0-turn Orange Bad Boy Lawn Mower and a Black 6 1/2 by 10 foot trailer (wooden floor with gate) used to haul the lawn mower. Other items taken were an air compressor, chain saws, weed eaters, blowers, an assortment of electric/battery powered drills and saws, hand tools, motorcycle helmets and attire and other items. Per Sheriff Suits' Investigation a Black Jeep with a Chrome Grill was seen prior to and after the incident. Sheriff Suits has indicated that also in Pope County in the last few weeks a Coin Collection and Diamond Bracelet were also taken from a residence without permission or authority. These items taken totaled approximately $3, 000.00. Sheriff Suits is asking if anyone has information on either of these incidents please call the Pope County Sheriff's Department at 618-683-4321. The Pope County Sheriff's Department has been advised there will be road construction on Illinois State Highway 145 beginning at the Dixon Springs 145/146 Intersection area to the Dixon Springs/U of I Ag Center. The construction will begin June 26, 2017 until completion. Please use caution when traveling the work zone and expect delays.
Pope County Sheriff Jerry Suits is asking for assistance from the citizens of Pope County: Several brown and white cows have been reported Missing near 146 and Hound ridge road. This is 1 mile west of Dixon springs. Damage from storms caused areas of fencing to be knocked down allowing the animals to get free. Pope County Sheriff Jerry Suits is asking for assistance from the citizens of Pope County and the surrounding area: On 5-16-17 a farm located on Appel Road in Pope County reported the Deaths of 7 horses, with several others still sick. There is a $1000 reward offered if anyone has any information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Pope County Sheriff Jerry Suits is asking for assistance from the citizens of Pope County and the surrounding area: On 5/11/2017 a contractual worker who mows the right of way for a rural electric company reported a John Deere Tractor with Loader and a Brown's Cutter Mower stolen. The tractor and implements were last seen on 5/10/2017 around 6 PM parked just off of HWY 146 East near the Pope County/Hardin County line.
