With a heavy heart the Cahokia Police Department would like to announce that we lost Retired Capt. Jim Nichols #35, who passed away this morning on 11-09-2018. Capt. Jim Nichols started with the Cahokia Police Department on Feb. 14, 1976 as a patrolman. Jim Nichols rose through the ranks at the Cahokia Police Department during his employment. Jim Nichols was a Patrolman, Sergeant, Lieutenant and retired on Feb. 16, 2004 as a Captain with the Cahokia Police Department. Jim Nichols will be greatly missed. Jim Nichols was a dedicated police officer for the Village of Cahokia for over 28 years of service. Our prayers are with his wife, Diane Nichols and family.

The Cahokia Police Department would like to send our deepest sympathy to the Washington Park Police Department and to the Family on the loss of Auxiliary Officer Ricardo Davis. Auxiliary Officer Davis died in the line of duty on Saturday October 28th, after he fell from the on-ramp to the Poplar Street Bridge, during a struggle with a suspect following a pursuit.

The Cahokia Police Department collaborated with the Driver's Education Department today at the Cahokia High School. Lt. Pipkens and Ptlm. Gemoules spoke with the students in class to give them more insight into the mindset of a police officer during a traffic stop, and then demonstrated with live scenarios outside the school.

Update: The water outage this morning was caused by a power outage, power is being fixed. The water to the area has been restored, however, Commonfields Water District WILL be under a boil order for 48 hours.

The Cahokia Police Department is getting overwhelming phone calls about the Cahokia residents not having any water this morning. Cahokia Water and Sewer Department and Commonfields are aware of the problem and it seems to be a problem with American Water due to Cahokia, Sauget and Centreville without running water. They are aware of the problem and they are working on it. Thank you Cahokia Police Department

The Cahokia Police Department would like to thank The Cahokia Fire Department and anyone else who played a part in Lt. Kevin McGinnis’ funeral today. I am sure his son, Sgt. RIP Lt. Kevin McGinnis of the Mascoutah Police Department. Lt. Kevin McGinnis was a former Cahokia Police Officer.

With the quick response from our police department with officers and detectives on scene, and with the help of the management from the Cottonwood Apartment Complex with excellent video surveillance, officers were quickly able to apprehend three suspects.

The Cahokia Police Department is still looking for qualified applicants for two part-time positions as a custodian. Duties to include janitorial work as well as monitoring and feeding of prisoners when needed. Most shifts will be on Friday midnights (11p-7a), Saturday and Sunday evenings (3p - 11p) and midnights. Up to three 8 hour shifts per week and pay is $12.00 per hour paid bi-monthly. Must have a CLEAN criminal record (no previous felony or serious misdemeanors, warrants etc.) and a valid driver's license (meaning when we run your license it shows as valid). Applications can be picked up in person at the Cahokia Police Department, 103 Main Street, Cahokia, IL 62206 and returned completed (if your application is returned incomplete it will be filed away as incomplete and will not be considered).
