K9 handler Investigator Thierry, his K9 "Hoss" and HDU Commander Sgt. Dunn recently visited Harrisburg Middle School to participate in Career Day. Time to leave 2017 behind! Another evening of making resolutions for ourselves that, let's be honest, probably won't make it to the end of February. 😁 One other thing you should promise yourself tonight is to not drink and drive. Grab a cab, an Uber or a designated driver if you've been drinking and need to go somewhere. A minimal fee to save yourself from a DUI arrest or worse is definitely worth it. Have a great, safe and happy New Years Eve celebration! 🎉🎊🎉

If you must a travel... Drive defensively. Give yourself plenty of space from the vehicle in front of you. Stay off your cell phone. And watch those bridges and overpasses. (The road surface can freeze more quickly than the normal road surface.) Please drive safely! It's better to be late than stuck in a ditch or worse! And as always, we thank our brothers and sisters of the badge for being out there tonight. You all be safe as well!

Our new recruits were able to escape the frigid temperatures over the last few days during weapons training. Many thanks to the Macon County Law Enforcement Training Center for letting us utilize their indoor range!

Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday season!

Several of our Investigators recently participated in the Fayette County "Shop with a Cop" event. Thanks to everyone who participated and making some children's holiday season that much better!

Students as well as faculty from Washington Elementary School gave a great big homemade "Thank you!" card to Investigator Flowers for his dedication to keeping them safe. Investigator Flowers has been enforcing speeding violations and distracted driving laws within the school zones throughout the area. It's always very satisfying to know our work is appreciated by the public and we want to thank Washington Elementary for the gesture! Thank you!

Shotgun hunting season is starting up again so Bambi will be running around. Keep an eye out for deer when you're out on the roads!

A very successful detail today! 1,271 vehicles checked with disability placards displayed but no driver present and 263 placards checked with the driver present. A total of 1,534 placards checked. 23 citations were issued to drivers for illegally parking in a space designated for the disabled. Outstanding job by all of the Investigators involved!

Think about it hard if you're tempted. It's not worth it.

Thank you to all of those who have served.

Thoughts and prayers to those affected in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

Please have a safe and enjoyable Halloween! Some tips you may want to consider when taking your kids trick or treating: 1) Plan a route ahead of time. 2) Dress accordingly for the weather. 3) Bring a flashlight and wear reflective clothing if possible. 4) Be sure to find a good place to hide the candy from Dad afterwards. If he finds it, it's gone.

On 10/16/17, Illinois Secretary of State Police assisted Illinois State Police District 1 with a scale detail at the intersection of IL Route 251 and IL Route 64 in Ogle County. 5 Secretary of State Police Investigators, 4 Illinois State Police Troopers, 4 IRS Agents and 2 IDOT portable scale operators participated in the detail. These details check large commercial motor vehicles that are operating on the roadways to ensure they are in compliance with safety regulations. The total results of the detail are as follows: 6 overweight citations 3 overweight warnings 3 other citations 17 other written warnings 13 motor carrier safety inspections 1 IFTA violation (IRS) 1 forced registration 82 trucks weighed

Today four Springfield schools received bomb threats. Bomb technicians from the Illinois Secretary of State Police Hazardous Device Unit were requested to sweep the schools for explosives. Upon searching the schools, no explosives were discovered. Pictured is Investigator Don Thierry and K9 "Hoss" entering one of the schools to begin a sweep.

Thoughts and prayers go out to all of the victims in Las Vegas. Also, grateful for all of the first responders and brave concert attendees that performed extraordinary acts of heroism during the ordeal.

Living in rural Illinois means not having to deal with all that Chicago traffic...that is until planting and harvesting season! The trucks and harvesters are out and about on the roads right now. Please be patient, careful and try not to make up for lost time because you were stuck behind a combine for a few miles. What matters is that you arrive safely!

CONSUMER ALERT! Vehicles that have been flooded to the extent that they should have been salvaged are sometimes fixed up and illegally sold to unsuspecting purchasers in areas that have not been hit by flooding. With the recent hurricane activity and catastrophic flooding in Texas and Florida, we want to remind consumers to be wary of previously flooded vehicles offered for sale here in Illinois. Here are some tips to protect yourself: - select reputable dealers - closely inspect the vehicle for any visible water stains, rust or fading as well as an odor of mildew - dried silt/mud in locations where it shouldn't be - have a vehicle inspection report ran on the vehicle If you feel you may have been illegally sold a vehicle that has been flooded please contact the Illinois Secretary of State Police.

Though we may not get this much press, our Investigators are always out there making sure you, the consumer, are taken care of.

2017 Du Quoin Fair Parade Honor Guard Detail

Illinois State Fair

Excitement is building as the rare eclipse event is getting closer! However, there is important information you need to know regarding the eclipse. Please see the attached notice from the Illinois Department of Public Health for some safety tips and informational resources.

School will be starting again this week in many towns throughout Illinois. That means school buses will be out and about transporting children. Please be aware of stopped buses on the roadway as well as the children that will be getting on and off. And as a reminder, Illinois law prohibits the use of cell phones in any capacity (hands-free device) while in a school speed zone. Let's all have a safe school year!

Field Division and Capitol Division honor guard members kicked off the beginning of the Illinois State Fair last week by participating in the parade. The State Fair will be going on all week. Stop by the fairgrounds, check out the activities and grab yourselves a corn dog and lemon shake-up!

ANOTHER SUCCESFULL YEAR AT THE COPS N' BOBBERS EVENT Children ages 6 to 12 years old are invited to spend a morning with a police officer at the Cops N' Bobbers Fishing event. The goal is for the kids to have a fun and positive time with police officers. In Illinois children under the age of 16 do not require a fishing license so it is a free activity for the child. The children attending the event are provided a breakfast snack and lunch. The children go home with their own fishing pole and tackle box as well as a goody bag. The kids receive a t-shirt commemorating the event. In addition to fishing, the kids are treated to demonstrations by the IL Fire Marshalls Office K-9 Unit, the IL SOS Police Bomb (HDU) unit, the IL ISP K-9 unit, and the IL DNR Fisheries department. This event is sponsored by the Illinois Law Enforcement Education Fund (ILEEF), the IL SOS Police FOP Lodge #95 and the IL Secretary of State Department of Police. (Multiple law enforcement agencies assist with Officers volunteering at the event). This years event was held on July 11th and it was outstanding!!!!!! Due to the interest in this event, children will need to be pre-registered for Cops N' Bobbers for 2018 which will be held in Girard. The date will be posted on our page once determined.
