Rock Falls Police Department News

A shout out to the Dixon Police Department on an outstanding job today, as they quickly eliminated an active threat within their school. The School Resource Officer did exactly what he was trained to do, and went fearlessly toward the threat. Chief Steve Howell you should be very proud of your troops!

Lacey is keeping Joy company this morning while she does her work. She is obviously right at home after living at the Rock Falls Police Department for almost 2 years! We love her so much!

STATEMENT FROM THE ROCK FALLS POLICE DEPARTMENT When a person, regardless of age, makes a threat to harm students or faculty at a school, the Rock Falls Police Department does not see this as a youthful prank. Threatening violence at a school, personally or through social media, is a crime. The fear caused when someone threatens a school community is real, no matter the intentions of the person who communicates that threat. All of these threats will be taken seriously and investigated. The Rock Falls Police Department and the Rock Falls School Administrators are working closely together to ensure the safety of our schools. January 18th, 2018 Press release from Chief Tammy Nelson of the Rock Falls Police Department. As the Chief of Police, I must find a balance between protecting critical evidence in the investigation but also intervening to avoid the spread of misinformation across social media. The Officer involved shooting Friday night occurred at the end of a lengthy pursuit where the decedent parked his vehicle in the driveway at 1304 Franklin Street. Officers approached the driver on foot and began giving him verbal commands. The driver put the car in reverse and accelerated in the path of our officer who discharged his weapon. Immediately following the shots fired our officers and two County Sheriff Deputies began providing CPR including applying a AED (automated external defibrillator) until EMS arrived. I have faith that the Illinois State Police will conduct a throrough complete review of the events that night and I ask that the public reserve judgement and let the facts speak for themselves. Rock Falls is a strong loving community and I will not sit silent and allow misinformation to drive a wedge between our Police Department and our citizens. I will comply with the Illinois Police and Community Relations Improvement Act and provide all the details of this significant incident once the investigation is complete and the Whiteside County States Attorney has completed his review and findings.

OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING On January 25th, 2018 at approx. 7:45pm, the Rock Falls police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling eastbound on Dixon Avenue in Rock Falls. This vehicle failed to stop for Officers and the vehicle was followed to the 1300 block of Franklin Street where Officers were involved in an Officer involved shooting of the suspected driver. The information received thus far indicates that the Officers acted appropriately and a through investigation is being done by the Illinois State Police Integrity Task Force. The investigation is in the preliminary stages and as the investigation progresses, more information will be released to the public. Our thoughts are with the Officers involved and their families, and the family of the decedent. Any further follow up to the investigation will be updated by the Illinois State Police.

PUBLIC ALERT: Rock Falls Police Department would like the help of the citizens of Rock Falls, in identifying the young kids that are putting NAILS in random driveways all over town. This has went on all summer and primarily most times the NAILS are deposited sometime late Sunday night to early Monday mornings. Several residents have put up cameras and we can say for sure they appear to be young kids (11-16 year range) and at least one of the subjects is on a scooter. PARENTS: If you are missing large amounts of NAILS recently, or your children have access to large amounts of nails please check on your children during the late hours to make sure they are home. We would assume that with the young age of these kids and the very late hour they are out roaming around, that their parents are not aware they have left the house. Any information please call the Rock Falls Police Department at (815)622-1140.

Lacey our comfort dog. What would we do without her.

Great to be involved with the Pink Heals tour today. We met a lot of great people today. What a great event to support those battling cancer. Lots of hugs and love.
