November is Winter Weather Preparedness month. SPRINGFIELD, IL – The official start of winter is still nearly two months away but much of the state has already experienced its first frost and, in some areas, its first snowfall. This sets the stage for a potentially long winter so the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) is recommending people start taking steps to ensure they’re prepared to stay safe and warm throughout the winter months. Driving on snow or ice-covered roads can be extremely hazardous. Before starting a trip when the weather is bad, be sure to check road conditions on the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Winter Road Conditions Map at Drivers should be sure to stock their vehicles with an emergency supply kit, in the event they are stranded on the roadside and need to wait for assistance. The emergency supply kit should include: *Blankets or sleeping bags *A flashlight with extra batteries *A First aid kit *Non-perishable snack food *Water *Sand or cat litter *A shovel *Booster cables *A cell phone charger Winter storms also can cause power outages that can last several hours or several days. It’s important to have an emergency supply kit at home that includes a battery-powered National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather radio, water and non-perishable food, flashlights, extra batteries, a first aid kit and supplies for pets and family members with special medical needs. Be prepared and Be safe ❄

Spooktacular pictures

Our 3rd annual Marion Police Department Halloween Spooktacular was a tremendous success! What makes this night a success is that so many families bring their children and spend the evening with us. We get so much enjoyment seeing all the different costumes and hopefully the kids realize we do this because we care about them. My 1st and BIGGEST thank you from our department goes out to Karl Gusentine and his family, and co-workers with FOP Lodge 197 for cooking and serving hundreds of hotdogs and hamburgers. Karl is honestly one of the most genuine kind-hearted people I know. We can’t say thank you enough to the Williamson County Fair Board for letting us use the fairgrounds again this year, it is the perfect spot for us to hold this event. Thank you to all the businesses that donated money and that came out in person to support our event. I don’t think I have ever seen that many different businesses at one event and they weren’t selling anything! They were just supporting our event and showing the community they care. I think the folks giving out candy were having as much fun as the kids getting the candy. We even had groups giving out ice cream and hot chocolate! Lastly a HUGE thank you to Detective Maria Lara Dwyer who has taken over this event and done a spectacular job! This would not be the success it is without her dedication and hard work. (Halloween is her favorite holiday) Detective Chris Ramage, Narcotics Sgt. Justin JD Dwyer, and Narcotics Agent Jessie Thompson and Maria all worked tirelessly on that amazing haunted house! They design, build, draw, and paint that all from scratch. You guys are awesome!!! Sorry this is long but these people deserve to be recognized and I do hope you all enjoyed the event!
