Christmas with a Cop is Around the Corner! November 1, 2018 The Boone County Indiana Fraternal Order of Police Richard G. Brown Memorial Lodge No. 110 has announced that the 21st Annual “Christmas with a Cop” program is now under way. In 2017, over $45,000 was raised to provide more than 420 needy children, ages twelve (12) and under, with winter coats, shoes, boots and clothing. Sergeant Craig Fouts, Boone County FOP Lodge No. 110 President, said this year’s fundraising goal is $50,000. Sergeant Fouts expects even more applications for the program to come in this year. “This program is all about the philanthropic people and businesses of Boone County generously giving, to help other families of Boone County”, said Fouts. The entire fundraising effort for this program is done locally without the help of commercial groups. All of the money raised goes directly to Boone County children. Christmas with a Cop encourages a positive interaction between the children and law enforcement. Fouts added: “The program also brings with it the camaraderie of various police agencies in Boone County.” Christmas with a Cop applications for participation are now available. The completed applications should be returned to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Lebanon Police Department, Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department, and/or the Zionsville Police Department Monday-Friday 8am-4pm. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office promotes “No-Shave November – Santa Beard December” November 1, 2018 The Boone County Sheriff’s Office will raise money for the Boone County Cancer Society with a “No-Shave November” campaign. To participate, employees who donate a minimum of $60 to the fund will be allowed to grow facial hair during the month of November. For those wishing to extend the challenge, employees will be able to do so by donating another $60 for the month of December. Such grooming standards are strictly regulated by department policy but will be somewhat relaxed in support of the program. Women, who want to help fight the cause, will be given a bracelet to show their support and/or allowed to wear pink or blue highlights in their hair. The cancer awareness bracelets will be given out upon receipt of a monetary donation. Sheriff Nielsen has added January to the mix and requires a $500 donation for that month alone. Money can be donated to sponsor a deputy to help pay for their growth! Sheriff Nielsen stated: “I am excited once again this year to support a great cause. My life has been touched personally by cancer. In 2007 I was diagnosed with Primary Mediastinal Lymphoma. With the support and encouragement of my family and friends, we tackled this ugly disease head on! Today I am cancer free because of the yearlong chemo treatments and by the grace of God. It created a passion for me to help in any way that I can to support people that face this ugly disease. We all have someone we know that has been touched by cancer. By supporting No-Shave November – Santa Beard December we can help in the awareness, education, and strive for the ultimate cancer cure!” We want to make the public aware: if you see a deputy with facial hair, remember, it’s not a lack of hygiene, it’s for charity! Join us, as we raise awareness for a great cause, and reduce the stigmatism associated with physical and mental health disease. All of the proceeds go directly to the Boone County Cancer Society for educational awareness and also helps residents of Boone County who are fighting cancer. Boone County Sheriff’s Office 1905 Indianapolis Ave. Lebanon, IN 46052 Attention: Chris Burcham BCCS No-Shave November! Please make checks payable to “Boone County Sheriff’s Office - BCCS”.
