School bus stop arm laws are in place to protect kids, because they can and do get injured by passing cars as they get on or off the school bus. As our area kids go back to school this week, help keep them safe and make sure you know when you're required to stop. ## Two-Lane Roadways ## If a school bus stops on a two lane road and the red flashing lights are activated and the stop arm is extended, all motorists MUST stop. ## Multi-Lane Roadways with NO Barrier between Lanes ## When a school bus stops on a multi-lane roadway without a barrier and the red flashing lights are activated and the stop arm is extended, all motorists MUST stop. ## Multi-Lane Roadway with a Grassy and/or Concrete Barrier ## When a school bus stops and the red flashing lights are activated and the stop arm is extended, only vehicles behind the bus MUST stop. Vehicles that are approaching from the opposite side are NOT required to stop. For more information visit https://www.in.gov/indot/3657.htm

Tribute to Fallen Terre Haute Police Officer Rob Pitts As members of the Law Enforcement Community, it breaks our hearts to hear news of another Police Officer killed in the line of duty. The tragedy is too, that it is a reality so close to home. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office will be keeping Officer Pitt's family & The Terre Haute Police Department in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers. Please know that you are never alone! We offer our sincere condolences as we feel the pain of our fellow officers when one is lost. We pray that GOD will continue to bless you all. May the sacrifice paid, once again, remind all of us, how vulnerable we are. When a Police Officer falls in the line of duty, a piece of every officer dies, as we are all bonded by who we are and what we represent. Too often, it is so difficult for us to make sense out of something that just doesn't make any sense. Our only recourse is to look to God for comfort, strength, and understanding. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office family will pray for your continued Peace and Blessings.
