Just a reminder, the toy drive for the National Youth Advocate Program ends on November 16th. If you would like to donate a new, unwrapped toy, there is a drop off accessible 24/7 in the Sheriff’s department lobby. There is also a drop off available at the child support office during regular business hours. We appreciate your participation and hope to make the holiday season’s a little brighter for those children in foster care during the holidays.

Reminder that we are teaming up with the National Youth Advocate Program and hosting a toy drive that will benefit local foster youths and help them to have a happy holiday season. Toys can be dropped off in the lobby of the Sheriff's department 24/7 or also at the child support office located on the second floor of the Decatur County Courthouse. Thank you to all who donate to this worthy cause.

Our records division will be closed on Wednesday, May 15, 2018 as well as Thursday, May 16, 2018 for training. We apologize for the inconvenience and will re-open during our regular business hours on Friday, May 18, 2018.

On 4/19/2018, Jail Officer Kyle Heyward and Jail Officer Allen Redelman were conducting security checks of the perimeter of the Decatur County Jail, and they observed suspicious objects on the roof area of the outdoor recreation portion of the building. Officers Heyward and Redelman further investigated and discovered several objects that had been stuffed with tobacco, methamphetamine and marijuana. The attention to detail of the entire Decatur County Jail staff over the last several months has led to the discovery of attempted smuggling of drugs into the jail. Under Indiana law, anyone who attempts to traffic with an Inmate an illegal drug or Dangerous item will be arrested, and charged with a Level 5 felony. Incarceration for a Level 5 felony is between one (1) and six (6) years, in the Indiana Department of Corrections, with the advisory sentence being three (3) years
