On 10/29/2018 Officer Tim Roos with the Huntingburg Police Department conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of 19th Street and Medical Arts Dr. During the stop Officer Roos recognized Austin Zehr (DOB 3/07/1996) who was in the passenger seat of the vehicle and had active warrants out of Dubois County. Officer Roos ordered Austin out of the vehicle and attempted to detain him. Austin exited the vehicle and attacked Officer Roos striking him multiple times with brass knuckles. Austin continued to resist however, Officer Roos was able to take Austin to the ground and gain control of him until additional officers arrived. Officer Roos sustained multiple minor injuries. Therefore he was transported to Memorial ER by ambulance where he was evaluated and released. During the incident Dubois Co. Dispatch received 911 calls reporting an officer getting attacked which allowed additional officers to be dispatched for assistance. The Huntingburg Police would like to thank the citizens who called. The Dubois Co. Sheriff’s Department and Memorial EMS assisted with this incident. Austin was booked into the Dubois Co. Security Center for the following warrants and charges; Theft/Class A Misdemeanor & Failure to return to lawful detention/ Level 6 Felony Additional Charges; 1 Count Aggravated Battery (Lvl 3 Felony), 2 Counts Battery on Public Safety Official (Lvl 5 Felony), 2 Counts Resisting Law Enforcement (Lvl 6 Felony), Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon (Lvl 5 Felony), 1 Count Possession of Methamphetamines (Lvl 6 Felony) & 1 Count Possession of Syringe (Lvl 6 Felony).
