Winter is rapidly approaching, and that means time for Shop With A Deputy!! Shop With A Deputy is a program for winter assistance with clothing for underprivileged or families that are needing a little extra help to cloth their children in Hancock County this year. If you or someone you know is in need, applications are available at the Hancock County Sheriff's Administrative Office Monday through Friday 8am-4pm. Applications can be picked up beginning TOMORROW November 1, 2018. Completed applications are due back by November 21, 2018 at 4pm. Families that are accepted into the program will be notified by phone with details. Here are a few safety tips to consider. *Young children should always have adult supervision. *Use reflective strips or glow sticks on your child's costume. *Walk in a group *Choose wisely. Make sure to choose homes that are well lit. *Children should never enter a strangers home. Stay on the porch or the step. *Use crosswalks. *Check out the candy your children get before letting them consume any. Be aware of any allergens in candy. Be safe and have fun! Happy Halloween!

· With Halloween fast approaching, it is important to know which houses your children should avoid. There are approximately 61 registered Sex Offenders residing in Hancock County. Offender Watch website allows the public to sign up for free automatic email notifications if a sex offender moves within a specific area. You can register any addresses that you or your children might be - home, school, daycare, gyms, ball fields, relatives homes, friends homes etc.

Congratulations to our newest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy graduate Deputy Matthew Kelly. Deputy Kelly graduated as a member of ILEA’s 2018-215 class and will be patrolling the county roads very soon! If you see Deputy Kelly out and about please congratulate him and welcome him to our department! Sheriff Mike Shepherd, Major Brad Burkhart and Captain Bobby Campbell attended today’s ceremony in support of Deputy Kelly.

Congratulations Zoey’s Place!! (Formerly Hancock County Child Advocacy Center) Zoey’s Place was one of 40 winners Nationwide of the State Farm Neighborhood Assist $25,000.00 grant.
