If the smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay outside. Respond quickly – get up and go, remember to know two ways out of every room, get yourself outside quickly, and go to your outside meeting place with your family.

A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room and outside each separate sleeping area. Install alarms on every level of the home. Install alarms in the basement. Smoke alarms should be interconnected. When one sounds, they all sound.

Smoke alarms are a key part of a home fire escape plan. When there is a fire, smoke spreads fast. Working smoke alarms give you early warning so you can get outside quickly.

Heating equipment is a leading cause of home fire deaths. Please review @NFPA's safety information: http://ow.ly/W26zO #WinterSafety

Don't be a Dan Doofus!

While you are running around the house today resetting all your clocks, remember to check your smoke alarms! If you haven't changed the batteries in awhile, put that on your to do list!

Hey if this guy locks his doors, shouldn't you???

Officer White and a friendly neighborhood panda from Halloween. Thanks to all our officers that came out for extra patrol on both trick-or-treat nights to keep our neighborhoods safe for the kids!

***UPDATE*** Trick-or-Treat hours are tonight from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM *AND* tomorrow from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The decision to change the hours was done with the best intentions due to the weather conditions, but we understand some people are not prepared for tonight's hours. Ellettsville PD will have extra officers on patrol in the neighborhoods both nights. Residents are free to pass out candy and trick-or-treat whichever night they feel is the best. The hours set by the town are merely an effort to organize the best night for these activities and to provide extra police officers to patrol the neighborhoods. ATTENTION!!! Ellettsville's trick-or-treat hours have been changed to October 30, 2018 due to incoming weather for tomorrow. The times will be 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Please share this with friends and family that were planning on spending Halloween in Ellettsville.
