Happy Halloween from the Prosecutor's Office!

Thursday afternoon, a Steuben Circuit Court Jury found 35-year-old Ronald Swary Jr. guilty of Invasion of Privacy, a Class A misdemeanor. The six-person jury heard testimony from 3 witnesses called by the State. The jury deliberated for approximately 15 minutes before reaching its verdict. A sentencing hearing was held immediately after the verdict. The Court imposed a 1 year jail sentence, all suspended with the exception of 20 days to serve in the Steuben County Jail. Swary was placed on probation for the balance of the suspended sentence, and ordered not to have contact with the victim of the crime. The State’s case was presented by Deputy Prosecutor Ryan Frey.

Thursday afternoon, a Steuben Superior Court Jury found 41 year old Dion Arnold guilty of Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury, a Class A misdemeanor. The six-person jury heard testimony from 4 witnesses called by the State. The Defendant was the only witness to testify on behalf of the defense. The jury deliberated for approximately 45 minutes before reaching its verdict. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for June 25, where Arnold faces up to 1 year in jail. The State’s case was presented by Deputy Prosecutor Ryan Frey.

Late Thursday afternoon, a Steuben Circuit Court jury found 48-year-old Clarence Hoskins, Jr. guilty of Burglary, a Level 4 felony, Robbery, a Level 5 felony, Battery Against a Child, a Level 6 felony, and Theft, a Class A misdemeanor. Over the course of two days, the twelve-person jury heard testimony from 13 witnesses called by the prosecution. The Defendant was the only witness to take the stand on behalf of the defense. After approximately 20 minutes of deliberation, the jury reached its verdict. A sentencing hearing has been set for April 16, where Hoskins, Jr. faces up to 12 years in prison for the Burglary, 6 years for the Robbery, 2 ½ years for the Battery Against a Child, and 1 year for the Theft. The State’s case was presented by Prosecuting Attorney Jeremy Musser.
