Happy New Year! We have taken several calls today for IRS phone scams. Please be mindful of these scams and do not give any personal information. If you have not heard about this or encountered this scam here is how it works: You get a call from an unknown number. When you pick up the phone, an automated voice message tells you that your credit or bank card has been locked. The caller then tells you to press one to unlock your card. After pressing one, the automated system asks for card information. DON'T give them this information, it's a SCAM! Some report the number coming across as unavailable, others say it shows all zeros and some reported they were recieving calls from local numbers. If you recieve a call like this please hang up the phone and do not give them your information. There are many other scams out there and please remember that if it sounds to good to be true then it propbably is. We have taken calls where some residents have lost hundreds and even thousands of dollars from different types of scams including over the phone and online scammers. Please be cautious and if you find yourself in this situation and it doesnt seem right please call us or ask someone before you give any information.
