On October 1st, 2018 at approximately 12:53 a.m. the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office assisted Richmond Police Department on a traffic stop in the 1700 Block of Williamsburg Pike in Wayne County Indiana. Deputy Tyler Marsh and His K9 partner Agar were requested by Officer Paul Hutchison and Officer Brett Haskett of the Richmond Police Department, to assist them with a free air sniff on the vehicle that Hutchison had stopped. Marsh and Agar completed the free air sniff of the vehicle and Marsh observed a positive indication by Agar. The positive indication then led to a probable cause search of the vehicle. The search of the vehicle yielded a glass pipe that was identified as a device commonly used to smoke methamphetamine. The four occupants of the vehicle were then taken into custody as no one would admit to owning the paraphernalia. One of the occupants then began to exhibit symptoms of an opioid induced overdose and admitted that he had eaten a bag of brown powdery substance when the traffic stop was initiated. After the subject was transported to the hospital officers of the Richmond Police Department discovered 21 grams of methamphetamine, 3 grams of heroin, and another bag of an unknown substance hidden in the pants of the subject. All occupants of the vehicle were arrested on various charges and remanded to the care and custody of The Wayne County Jail.
