With Heavy Hearts Elk County Sheriff's Office would like to send our condolences and prayers to all of the family & friends in this time of need. It is with heavy heart to announce the passing of retired Game Warden Everett “Tiny” Wilnerd. Game Warden Wilnerd’s first duty station was in Jetmore and then in Howard Kansas. He retired in January of 1997. He will be missed but never forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers to his family. Services will be in Howard, KS on Saturday.

>>>>>>NOTICE HOWARD RESIDENTS<<<<<<< SMOKE TESTING SEWER LINES The City of Howard is conducting a smoke test of the sanitary sewer system, with assistance of Kansas Rural Water Association, to find defects that could affect the treatment and collections systems operations The smoke testing will begin on August 23, 2018 and may last two days (Weather permitting) “Smoke Testing” will assist in finding breaks and defects in the sewer system. You may see smoke coming from sewer vents on buildings, from the ground and other areas. The smoke is non-toxic, non-staining has no odor is white in color. The smoke should not enter your home or buildings unless you have defective plumbing or dry drain traps. It is advisable to pour at least a quart of water down each drain that is not regularly used just prior to the smoke test. If smoke does enter your home please advise the smoke test survey crew or call city hall at 620-374-2202 Important!! Even though the smoke is non-toxic, individuals with respiratory problems should leave the home if smoke enters to prevent any distress.

Elk County Road & Bridge crew is starting to work today on the roadway from Flint Oak Hunting lodge to Fall River. The roadway will be down to one lane. Please avoid the area if at all possible and slow down if you do have to travel through the work zone. This will be going on for several days. As they are resurfacing the road.

Today the three suspects that were arrested on the warrants were charged in the Court of Elk County; charges are listed below. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in the court of law . >>>Press release<<< Elk County Sheriff's Deputies and K-9 unit along with Montgomery County High risk Tactical Team and Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office and K-9 unit executed two search warrants in Elk County early this morning. Three individuals were arrested this an ongoing investigation and more arrests may be expected in the future. The Elk County Sheriff's Office would like to Thank Montgomery County Sheriffs Office and Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office in execution of the search warrants.

On Saturday June 30th from 9 AM to 12 noon, we will have Officers in front of the Moline Fire House on Main Street of Moline for you to drop off any old medications that you no longer want or need. They will then be able to dispose of them properly. We will then do this at a future date in Longton and Grenola to allow everyone to have the opportunity to get rid of their old medications. Sorry for the last post I was in a hurry and looked at the calendar wrong.

Elk County Sheriff's Department and our staff and family would like to send our condolences to the two Sheriff's officers that was lost in the line of duty in Wyandotte County. Our thoughts and our prayers are with the family and friends and the department as they go through these tough times ahead.

Elk County Sheriff Hanks patrolled 160 Highway to ensure the safety of all the bicyclist traveling through the county. There were approximately 800 bikers. We would like to thank the motorist for slowing down and being cautious and the citizens for furnishing them water and food as they toured through our fine county. We appreciate the bicyclist for traveling through our county and wish them luck in their journey.

Biking Across Kansas bicyclist are traveling through our county right now. They are traveling on 160 highway from the Cowley county line to the Montgomery county line. Please be cautious and watch out for them.

Elk County Sheriff's Office along with Elk County emergency response crews and the Kansas Highway Patrol are on the scene of a semi rollover on Highway 160 and County Road 10. Emergency crews will be on scene for some time please slow down and use Extreme Caution.

FOUND! This K9 was found yesterday 05262018 in the 700 block of Osage in Elk Falls. If she belongs to you or you know the owner please contact the Elk County Sheriffs Office at 6203742108. We are currently housing her and would like to get her returned to the rightful owner.
