Beginning at 1:18pm, most cell phones within range of an active cell tower should receive a WEA test message. The message header will read “Presidential Alert” and the text will read: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” Additional details can be found on FEMA’s Emergency Alert Test website and a fact sheet is attached for your reference. This will be the first nationwide presidential-level WEA test (and you can’t opt-out) so it may catch some people by surprise. Johnson County Emergency Management will continue disseminating this information via social media over the next few days. Please share with others you feel need to be aware.
