Chetopa Police Department News

We want to say a huge thank you to our Labette County EMS! Happy National EMS Week! We appreciate you! Thank you for giving of yourselves to help so many people. What a blessing to our town and county. Thank you!

Happy National Police Week. This week we remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty. We remember those who are still giving their time and if needed their lives to protect ours. If you see a Police Officer this week please give them a pat on the back. They deserve it and you would be surprised how seldom they get praised for a job well done. If they have done anything to help you or a family member let them hear how appreciative you and your family are. Have a blessed safe week.

We want to say Happy Mothers Day! To all First Responder mothers. Have a wonderful and blessed day!

A fantastic example of interagency corporation and teamwork. Quapaw and Ottawa County are blessed with true professionals.

This is the suspect that was pursued from Chetopa to rural Ottawa County and take into custody.

On Wednesday April 25th, 2018 the Chetopa Police Department received a call from a local business requesting a standby while they terminated an employee. During the course of the standby Sergeant Tim Gilliland was informed that a male associate of the terminated employee was known to be in possession of narcotics and weapons and was at the location. After completion of the standby the male subject kept driving up and down the ally, which alarmed the employees and prompted an additional call for law enforcement. At approximately 1140 hours Sergeant Tim Gilliland and Chief Scott Feagan attempted to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation. The vechile fled at a high rate of speed and officers pursued the car into Cherokee County and eventually into Ottawa County Oklahoma. At this time Ottawa County authorities joined the pursuit. The vehicle finally came to a stop approximately 1 mile west of Peoria Oklahoma. The male driver and female passenger were taken into custody by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office on suspicion of possession of narcotics, possession of firearms, possession of stolen property as well as other charges. The male driver also had felony warrants out of McDonald County Missouri. Formal charges are expected to be filed in Ottawa County Oklahoma and Labette County Kansas. All involved are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
