Lane County Sheriff's Office News

Thank you Jarrod Schmidt for this amazing flag.

The greatest asset of America today is not its fertile fields, its rich ores, its completely equipped factories or its millions in currency. The greatest asset in America is the American people. The greatest possible field for economy is not in saving materials but in promoting the safety of our people. The future of the safety movement is not so much dependent upon the invention of safety devices as on the improvement of methods of educating people to the ideal of caution and safety. ~Walter Dill Scott, letter to the National Safety Council, 1921

Western Kansas Child Advocacy Center has set a goal to sell 5000 tickets to benefit 500+ children and families in their 32 Western Kansas Counties. We are excited to be a part their COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS. From now until December 20th, we will have tickets available at the Sheriff's Office.

Friendly reminder to drive with caution this morning, due to some possible slick spots on the roads. Have a good Monday!

FYI, 397-2222 is not a valid number to the sheriff's office. You will need to call 397-2828 to get through. Thanks

Our thoughts and prayers tonight go out to the family and friends of Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office Deputy Robert Kunze III. By all accounts a very dedicated and professional officer. Rest easy brother. We have the watch from here.

School is officially back in session! Here are a few helpful reminders to help keep our kids safe... *DO NOT stop in the middle of the street to drop off of your students. *Be aware of the School Zones! It is 20 mph and is being patrolled. *Remind your students to look both ways before crossing the street and to use crosswalks where available or cross the street at the corner. *Keep an eye out for students walking or riding their bikes to and from school. Have a great 2018-2019 school year!! GO HORNETS!! GO EAGLES!!

We received a call about 4 grey goats south of 285 and Red Chief. The goats left the roadway and entered a field headed west. We contacted the land owner, and he didn't know who they belonged to. If you know who they belong to, please contact the Sheriff's Office. Thank You

SHERIFFS' HISTORY WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DO The office of Sheriff dates back over 1000 years to early England. The office came to the American Continent with the first settlers. Although the image has changed, many of the duties remain the same. In Kansas, the office of the Sheriff was established before Statehood was achieved. In some areas of Kansas Territory, the Sheriff was the only law enforcement. In 1855, General Statutes for the Territory of Kansas set the procedures for electing a Sheriff. When Kansas became a State in 1861, the office of Sheriff was among the first established. The Sheriff is elected by the citizens of his/her county for a four year term. The Sheriff of today is in charge of a modern, full service law enforcement agency. In some of the less populous counties, the Sheriff may provide the only law enforcement to the citizens, while in the metropolitan counties the Sheriff's Office is a large agency offering valuable full service law enforcement.
