This dog was picked up near the state line by a passing motorist and dropped off at the Nazarene Church in Meade. **WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! ** **PLEASE SHARE** On Thursday March 1st, 2018 @ approximately 12:40 pm and 2 miles North of Meade Kansas on Highway 23, a small grey tote was inadvertently lost on the East side of Highway 23. That grey tote contained Medical Knee Cap Implants (Patella’s) – say that three times in a row while rubbing your belly. Unfortunately someone picked up the grey tote and didn’t turn it in to authorities. Those implants were bound for Aunt Frieda’s surgery at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City so she could play Hop Scotch with the grand-kids this summer. Think of the grand-kids if not Aunt Frieda! The grey container shown below is approximately 12” T x 10” W x 10” D, and contained five implants - shown alongside the tote below. These implants are all serialized and cannot be sold, used in any way, or for that matter - melted down! Now I know a lot of ya’ll out there in SW Kansas like to hunt Pheasant and Quail and as great of an idea as it may sound - after downing a 30-packer off the tailgate of your truck – turning these knee caps into Blue Rock, well, just stop right there! Look down at your own aging knees dangling off the end of that tailgate and imagine if it was you instead of Aunt Frieda waiting on those knee caps! Honestly, they’re useless and of no value to the general public and if someone out there knows of the whereabouts of said knee caps, would you please encourage them to drop them off at a local Hospital Emergency room in one of these towns…….Meade, Dodge City, Garden City or Liberal. No questions will be asked! Just think of it as a reverse “Dine and Dash” but this time you’re giving instead of taking! It’s a feel good in your gut kinda thing! Just think the knee you could be saving could be your own Uncle Fred’s or Granny Mae’s as they get ready to train for the summer league Double Dutch Competition to be held at the State Fair! And as a token of our gratitude…….we’ll let you keep the Grey Tote!

They will have you turn your TV off & back on before requiring you to pay them $99 (on your credit card) with the promise of reimbursing you $9 in the next 10 months. They will also ask you to read off your receiver number and then give you a number to call (888-488-3928) and tell you to use extension 15 and ask for Supervisor Sam.

The Sheriff's Office took several reports of car burglaries in Plains where firearms were taken on the night of 9/9/17 and the morning of 9/10/17. We believe to two people in the picture are involved. If anyone has knowledge of who these two are or their whereabouts please call the Sheriff's Office at 620-873-8765. ****THEFT DETERENT REMINDERS**** We would like to remind citizens of Meade County to ALWAYS LOCK your vehicles, homes, and businesses (including churches) to help deter those who are looking to steal whatever is there for the taking. IF THEY WANT IT, THEY DON'T CARE WHERE THEY GET IT!! We need you to be vigilant in making sure your vehicles are locked, and valuables like purses, electronics, wallets, loose cash or coins are not left in vehicles in plain sight. When they are, it is like a neon sign saying "Hey, I'm right here, take me!" Here are some guidelines to help you keep your hard-earned possessions: 1. TAKE YOUR KEYS out of the vehicle and LOCK IT. 2. Remove items that someone else would like to have. If you are going to need them again to go somewhere and don't want to make extra trips carrying them to and from the house, put them in the trunk or out of sight and LOCK THE VEHICLE. 3. Take your purse, wallet, loose cash and coins, checkbook anything else you don't want stolen from the vehicle and LOCK IT UP. 4. LOCK YOUR DOORS. Whether you are just running down the block to see a friend or make a quick trip to the store or post office, thieves only need a couple minutes to get in and back out with what they are after. We are working hard to solve the break-in's that are occuring. ***APPLE PRODUCTS SCAM ALERT*** IPHONE...IPAD....ETC There was an incident at the Plains Public Library today that has shed light on a new scam going around and they want everyone to be aware so they don't fall victim. (The employee at the Library was able to avoid a negative outcome.) An employee at the library received a call from someone claiming to be from "Apple I Care" (which is the real name for Apple Product support). They told the employee they had detected a virus on their Apple Product and needed them to plug their phone into a computer so they could remotely access the computer and remove the virus. Once the phone is connected, they direct the victim to a website "easytechcenter..com" (looks legitimate, but it's not!). They also will ask the victim to access their online banking account, which gives them INSTANT ACCESS to everything in that account. What is REALLY HAPPENING is in fact the caller has established a connection through the phone to the computer to put a virus on the computer, as well as access your banking accounts. Once they have put the virus on your computer, they will ask you to pay several hundred dollars to remove the virus they originally called about that didn't exist to begin with. If you refuse to pay, they will tell you your phone/product is now useless and will not properly function ~ NOT TRUE!!! There is nothing wrong with it, other than the VIRUS THEY JUST PUT ON THERE!!! After contacting Apple Inc., they advised the Sheriff's Office that they WILL NEVER CALL YOU!!! If you have a problem you call them to resolve it. For those commenting on the Courtesy Parking Notification post, please read the following scenario. Imagine that you are parked on the wrong side of the street facing the wrong direction. If there is someone parked legally in front of you (or not) and you decide to pull out on the street and get into your correct lane of traffic, you are MUCH LESS LIKELY to see a child on a bicycle or another motorist who are in your blind spots in front and/or in back of you. Stop and try to imagine how you would feel if you have just hurt someone elses loved one (especially a child) because you decided that parking on the wrong side of the street would save you a couple of steps. How would you react if it was your loved one who had been injured? Is it really worth it in the end to park on the wrong side of the street? The goal of the Sheriffs Office is compliance with the law. If we need to extend the deadline before tickets are issued, we will. We understand that habits are hard to break, but more importantly we want to make our community safer for everyone.

Due to recent complaints and incidents that have put the safety of residents and their property at risk, we are providing the following Courtesy Parking Notification to ALL RESIDENTS of Meade County. Our officers/deputies will be leaving Warnings on all vehicles parked illegally on the streets (ie wrong side/wrong direction). These warnings will be given for ONLY 60 DAYS. Starting January 1, 2017, citations will be given for ALL Illegally Parked vehicles. This is being put in place for everyones safety. Please share this and help get the word out.

If you are out for Halloween, remember to drive slowly and watch for children running out into the street. Some costumes can be hard to see, and if lighting is low it can be a greater challenge to see them in time. We also want to remind citizens to be mindful of leaving valuables and/or other items purchased for Christmas gifts in sight in locked vehicles. This is very enticing to those who wish to have these items. Lock items in your trunk until you can get home and secure them inside and away from prying eyes. NEWS BULLETIN......Over the weekend, two fugitives from Meade County Sheriff's Office were apprehended in Colorado. Colorado Springs PD arrested Corey Connery and Greeley PD arrested David Blanco on outstanding Meade County Warrants. Both subjects are awaiting extradition to Kansas.

**PHONE SCAM ALERT** We have received numerous phones calls from citizens in the county concerning calls from an unknown number. The caller identifies themself as an IRS Agent and proceeds to threaten the local citizen with arrest, loss of home, and wage garnishment among other things. The caller goes on to ask for personal information such as your bank account information, social security number, address verification etc. ****DO NOT****REPEAT****DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION TO THE CALLER!!!!!**** Tell them to stop calling and if they persist, tell them to call us here at the Sheriff's Office and we will glady speak with them. ********The IRS will NEVER CALL you at home. If the REAL IRS needs to contact you, they will ONLY do so BY MAIL!!!! If you don't recognize the number calling, DON'T ANSWER ~ if it is important the calling party will leave a message. On August 7, 2016 at 10:48 pm the following accident occurred on 4 Rd north of Plains. This was the result of TEXTING and DRIVING. The teenage driver survived with just minor cuts and bruises BUT ONLY because of wearing a seat belt. The vehicle was airborne for over 120 feet before hitting the ground and rolling another 100 feet before it came to a stop on the driver’s side. This driver is very fortunate to be alive. Because the driver survived this violent wreck don’t think that you are invincible. Parents and Grandparents please share this story and stress the importance to your teenage drivers about not texting and driving. Teenage drivers remember texting and driving causes wrecks and no text or call is worth your life. If you must call or send a text....pull over in a safe place if it is too important to put off. Otherwise, PLEASE wait until you arrive at your destination. IT CAN WAIT.

Nancy Mitchell to Meade County Kansas Sheriffs Office 4 hrs · .. Meade County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a case of criminal damage to property. This damage occurred at the intersection of 9 and H Road, northwest of Meade. There was a great amount of damage to a new Fuel pump box and also a grain auger, resulting in a large loss for the property owner. This damaged occurred sometime between late night hours of June 17th and the morning of June 19th. We are sure whoever or whatever damaged this property is aware of the damage, and probably has insurance to cover it. Please if you happened to drive by and see a truck or large piece of equipment, trying to turn around or stuck at this property between the time frame, call the Sheriff's office at 620-873-8765. We are continuing to investigate this, so any and all help would be greatly appreciated by us, and the landowner!
