The Newport Police “No Shave November” charity event is going on! We are raising money to support child hunger and homelessness by donating it to a special program inside of Newport Schools! Please consider helping us reach our goals! You can donate money at ANY Fifth Third Bank location! Just tell them you are donating to the “Newport Police No Shave Charity”. On November 30th we will count all donations and then present the money to the Newport Schools Family Resource Center program! Helping children who need clothes, food, books, and offering parenting classes to parents! Please share!!!

Have a safe and fun Happy Halloween!

We would like update everyone on our cause! We have amended the outside donation option. We will longer use the previous link, due to fees being charged after the donation was received. We have networked with Newport Fifth Third Bank who has stepped up and helped us set up a free "Benefit" checking account to collect all donations. This will further track everything and make it absolutely easy to give directly to the FRC program, along with no fees being deducted!!! To donate, just go to ANY Fifth third banking location and submit your donation to the account "Newport Police No Shave Charity". this will all go to the same account! Please continue to donate! There is always a need when it comes to helping the children! We hope everyone understands and can see where we stand on this very important cause! Thank you

Recently, you may have seen Newport Officers in uniform with beards! The officers decided to participate in a charity event called "No Shave November". The officers donate a specific amount of their money to a cause for the opportunity to step outside of "Department grooming standards". The donated money is then given to a charity in Newport that helps our community! The "No Shave November" event goes from October 15th until November 30th 2018. This year, the officers decided to work with the Newport Primary School Family Resource Center. This program assists kids in need in our city. From food and school supplies, to clothing, books for a library, and parenting classes! All for students in the Newport School System (Primary, Intermediate, and High School). So far the officers have donated almost $1,200 dollars of their own money! We have been asked by friends and family if they could donate to our cause, which we have decided to create a donation link. If you would like to help us reach our goal of $1,000 dollars in outside donations. All money donated will go directly to this amazing program and only this program! *** After determining the previous donation link/ service charges fees to process donations to charities, we have stopped that donation option. We have networked with Fifth Third Bank in Newport to set up a Benefit account. You can easily go to ANY Fifth Third Bank and drop off your donation. Just reference the account name "Newport Police No Shave Charity". *** Hats off to Fifth Third bank for stepping up and helping us set this free account up! Please help us help our community! This is a great cause and we are excited to team up!

Please give a big thank you and congratulations to Officer Renee South! Today, was her last shift as she is retiring from law enforcement. P.O. Good afternoon, October is Cyber Security awareness month. This is a great time to educate yourself and protect against online fraud scams. Two quick tips 1. Neither the IRS nor any US Police agency will call you and request you pay an outstanding debt or warrant over the phone. *if you find yourself experiencing one of these calls, pay attention to what they say. Gift cards and money transfers are not a proper form of payment for fines, warrants, or IRS debt. 2. Microsoft will never call you to tell you that they are seeing a problem with your computer! This is a scam! * if you comply with the scammers request they will solicit remote access to your computer or device. This is bad! **Microsoft has confirmed they do not conduct business like this! This event marked another chance for our communities to come together to support the fight against Cancer for all! The “Bald like Boggs” event raises $1,019 dollars in the name of Detective Nate Boggs, who used to work in Campbell Co as a police officer. We want to give a huge shout out to Jerzees Newport who allowed us to meet and do this event at their place and Supercuts in Newport who had two stylist come out to cut everyone’s hair! Update on Kentucky’s real ID change Update on REAL ID compliant driver's licenses: Real ID update TO: Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks FROM: Matt Cole, Director Division of Driver Licensing, Department of Vehicle Regulation RE: REAL ID Compliance Extension DATE: October 11, 2017 On September 11, 2017, Kentucky submitted a request for an additional annual extension to the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for coming into full compliance with the REAL ID Act and its related regulations. On September 25, 2017, DHS requested additional information from Kentucky, a request to which we fully responded on that same day. We were notified late yesterday afternoon that DHS is working to expedite their review of our request, and stated that most extension requests have required a series of follow up conversations with the states. DHS has committed to notifying us without delay when their review of our extension request has been completed. In the meantime, DHS has informed the media, state and federal agencies that DHS will be processing extension requests beyond October 10, 2017 and has instituted a grace period from enforcement for all states with pending extension requests. The grace period begins on October 11, 2017 and ends on January 22, 2018. During this time, Federal agencies, including TSA, may continue to accept driver’s licenses and identification cards issued by states with pending extensions. If you encounter actions by local TSA officials that differ from the guidance received directly from DHS, then you should contact me directly with those details and we will convey this information to DHS. As of today, DHS has updated its Real ID Website to reflect the status of those states whose extension requests are under review or have been granted. DHS plans to update the website on a weekly basis to reflect the decisions being made by DHS Acting Secretary Elaine Duke. Since the previous update, North Carolina has been provided with a compliance determination and Virginia has been granted an extension. All other jurisdictions have been either deemed compliant or are considered "under review."

The Newport, City of KY signed a resolution recently following the suit of countless other cities in Kentucky to Address Kentuckys pension issues. The resolution states the city's support in separating CERS (County Employee Retirement System) pension from the other state pensions. This would make our Newport Fire/EMS, City employees, and Police retirements stand alone and funded still. Right now the state legislature is trying to strip our first responders of their earned current retirement, down to nothing. Thank you City Commissioners #newportky #npt #pension #kentucky #lawenforcement #CERS
