PRESS RELEASE The Richmond Police Department will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints throughout the months of November, December and January. The checkpoints will be at designated areas on highways where statistics have shown an elevated number of vehicle crashes. During the checkpoints, officers will be enforcing laws related to operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, licensing of motor vehicles and operators, registration and insurance violations, seat belt and child restraint violations, and motor vehicle equipment violations. These roadway locations include but are not limited to: Eastern Bypass (KY 876), Main Street (Daniel Ellis Memorial Highway), Irvine Street, Lexington Road (US 25), Robert R. Martin (US 25), Lancaster Road (KY 52), Barnes Mill Road, Berea Road (US 25 South). Traffic Safety Checkpoints are a valuable tool used to promote the safety and well-being of the public as well as providing police with visibility and interaction with the community. PRESS RELEASE Arrest: 10/30/2018, police charged Arthur Joey Gilbert, age 55, Richmond, KY with drug and firearm related offenses. At approximately 1:40 AM, the Richmond Police Department executed a search warrant at 309 South Third Street #3. Officers seized methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, gabapentin tablets, and a SKS rifle. Gilbert was charged for the following offenses and lodged in the MCDC: - Trafficking Controlled Substance 1st degree (Heroin) - Possession Controlled Substance 1st degree (Methamphetamine) - Possession Controlled Substance 3rd degree, (Gabapentin) - Possession of Marijuana - Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon Contact: Lt. PRESS RELEASE On 10/29/2018, at approximately 1:15 PM, the Richmond Police School Resource Officer at Madison Central High School responded to a parking lot on school property. School officials were investigating the possibility of drug use on campus when they discovered an unloaded handgun in the trunk of a car. Further investigation revealed the handgun had been previously reported stolen. A student was later charged with receiving stolen handgun and possession of a weapon on school property. Contact: Lt. *****************Update Training is complete***************************** On October 18, 2018 the Richmond Police Department will be conducting a joint training exercise with Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass. The exercise will take place at the Bechtel Parsons' facility located in the Richmond Mall. During the exercise no pedestrian or vehicle traffic will be permitted in the Bechtel Parsons' parking lot which will be marked off. The training exercise will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude at approximately 11:00 a.m. Thank you for your assistance in this matter and we will notify you when the training is complete!
