The 2018-19 class of the Commissioner’s Executive Leadership Program had a two-day meeting this week at Carter Caves State Park. The class is made up of 26 DOC employees from across the state who are placed on teams. During the event, the teams competed in several different team building activities. The meeting also included media training and a tour of one of the caves at the park.

Central Office staff conducted a pumpkin carving contest as part of their Halloween festivities. Kristin Proctor in Offender Information Services was the winner. Thanks to all who participated.

In effort to help displaced workers from a manufacturing business in Danville, Kentucky the KYDOC participated in a job fair at the Mercer County Public Library. We were able to present career opportunities within the Department of Corrections. Harrodsburg Baptist Church sponsored this event and provided lunch and a $100 gift card to the first 130 job seekers! Justice Cabinet Deputy Secretary Jon Grate spoke to the DOC deputy wardens and majors at their semi-annual meeting earlier this week.

Blackburn Correctional Complex recently held a Family Fun Day on October 13, 2018. The staff and their families enjoyed a cookout, hayride tour through the complex and an inflatable slide and jump house. Games and prizes were also provided, along with a pumpkin for the children to paint.

On Saturday, October 20th, Warden Brad Adams and the NTC Staff Canteen Committee hosted a family day for employees and their families. The event featured great food, music, bouncy houses, face painting, balloon making, emergency vehicles, Air Evac helicopter, hay maze and a haunted house. NTC would like to thank the Boyle County Fire Department, Boyle County EMS, Air Evac Lifeteam, Kentucky National Guard, all of the employees, contractors, volunteers and community stakeholders that made this event possible.

Warden Mazza at Green River Correctional Complex presented Donald Holloway with Freedom Riders of Kentucky with a check for over $1,000 from the GRCC Staff Canteen. Freedom Riders provide therapeutic horseback riding to disabled children and adults since 2003.

Employee Appreciation Day was recently held at Western Kentucky Correctional Complex. Warden Lane, Deputy Wardens Hatton and Tangerose, and Major Grimes grilled for staff on all shifts. #employeeappreciation #THANKYOUFORALLYOUDO
