If you are looking to RENT or BUY a home or property, please make sure you are speaking with the owner before giving any money down on any rental or purchase. SCAMMERS are stealing photos and information found on social media sites and claiming to own the properties and scamming people out of deposits and first months rent, promising the property when in fact it may already be rented or sold!!! PLEASE BE ON ALERT!!

SHOOTING AT FARMERS NEAR BINGO HALL ON JULY 2, 2018: As most of you are aware by now Rowan County Deputies John Holbrook and Steve Justice, along with Rowan County EMS responded to a call concerning two people being shot near the Bingo Hall last Monday night. The victims were located and removed within minutes and the suspect was believed to have retreated back inside his residence. Morehad Police Department Officers & Kentucky State Police Officers responded to assist. With the aid of their MRAP vehicle the Morehead Police Department SRT was able to safely extract the suspect from his residence. I want to say a personal thank you to MPD Chief Derrick Blevins for having the foresight to form a Special Response Team and obtain the MRAP vehicle, without this team and this vehicle the task that night would have been much more difficult. Special thanks to MPD SRT members Ben Castle, Paul Thomas, Derrick Howard, Josh Ison, Pat Smith, & Chris Waltz who removed the suspect from his residence. Thanks to Rowan County Tactically Trained Medic, Jarred Gillam for being right in the thick of things as SRT members took action. Thanks to Kentucky State Police Detective, David Zimmerman and KSP Sgt. Toby Gardner for their assistance that night. Thanks to Darryl Glover and the Farmers Fire Department for their assistance at the scene. I know there were other MPD officers, KSP officers, & Firemen present and helping that night that I havent named, thank you for your assistance. The work and cooperation of first responders in this county is absoulutely amazing regardless of the patch they wear on thier sleeve. I have always been, but once again want to say that I am proud to call Rowan County my home. The two victims remain hospitalized in serious condition and I would ask everyone who reads this to please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Fraudulent Call made using Rowan County Coroner, John Northcutt’s name on caller I.D. We have received a recent report from one of our residents who reported receiving a telephone call that her caller I.D. indicated was John Northcutt. When our resident answered the phone fearing John was calling her with bad news the calling party attempted to sell her some type of alert system. The caller was obviously not our Coroner John Northcutt. We want to make all our residents aware that scammers can make any name they choose show on your caller I.D. so we again once again remind you to never give personal information over the telephone.

The wording is difficult to read but appeared as though the student was attempting to spell shot. Based on the investigation we have no reason to believe this was a credible threat.

Should Rowan County Fiscal Court support the Medical Marijuana bill as proposed for KY? Myself and all the hundreds of police officers I know think the current bill as proposed is a bad idea for our state. Our stance is that there may be chemicals in marijuana that have medicinal value and if that be the case let’s extract those chemicals and make it available to those who may benefit from it. We, (the Sheriffs Dept, The Kentucky Sheriffs Association, The Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police, The Kentucky State Police) & most all police agencies in the country are against the ‘Puff your problem away’ approach suggested in Kentucky’s current bill. This bill would allow people to smoke marijuana as a form of medical use. Think about this for just a minute, there is no possible way to control the dosage level one might get by smoking any form of medicine! We use morphine, a chemical extracted from the poppy plant daily in this country but we do not allow people to smoke opium to get their medical doses! Walter Blevins our county Judge has invited speakers to the Fiscal Court meeting tomorrow hoping the court will endorse the proposed legislation. (See Photo below) obviously I will be there hoping to convince the court not to support the bill as it is currently written. If you feel strongly either way please come by in the morning and speak up. Meeting starts at 8:00a.m.
