Rayne Police Officers are searching for Paul Wheeler who is wanted for his involvement in two recent shooting incidents. Chief Carroll Stelly advised that the investigation into the November 8 Ann Drive shooting and last nights shooting on A School Street resulted in officers obtaining an arrest warrant for Paul Wheeler for multiple counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder. Frank Leopaul is also being charged for his involvement in the November 8th shooting with 4 counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder and Possession of Marijana with intent to distribute. Leopaul has been incarcerated since the November 8th shooting. Chief Stelly advised that several other individuals will be charged for their involvement in the incident. The investigation is on going and detectives anticipate having the investigation completed this week. Chief Stelly asks anyone with information on the whereabouts of Paul Wheeler to please contact the Rayne Police Department or the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Department at 789 - TIPS. On October 25, 2018, at approximately 10:36 AM, an officer was patrolling the area of South Eastern Avenue near Texas Street regarding prior drug activity. The officer conducted a traffic stop and during the investigation located Methamphetamine powder, drug paraphernalia, and 49 tablets identified as a prescription-only medication. Officers arrested Corey Mier (25) for Possession of Schedule II (Methamphetamine), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Corey Mier was also issued a traffic citation for the violations. The passenger Neville Matthews was arrested for Possession of Schedule II (Methamphetamine) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Both suspects were booked into the APSO Jail without incident.

On October 23, 2018 at approximately 7:06 pm officers responded to a disturbance near the intersection of North Eastern and Marjorie Street. During the investigation Logan Thomas was found to be in possession of Crystal Meth, 17 pills identified as Cyclobenzaptine, 4 pills identified as Alprazolam, and a pen cylinder with residue from a pill. Logan Thomas was charged with Possession of Schedule II (Meth), Possession of Schedule IV (Alprazolam), Possession of Legend Drugs (Cyclobenzaptine), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Logan Thomas was booked into Acadia Parish Jail without incident.

On October 18, 2018, Rayne police officers arrested Kenny Daigle for Possession of a Schedule IV CDS. Kenny was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail pending bond. Officers also added an additional charge to Jeanell Daigle, who was still incarcerated after her October 9th arrest. Jeanell was charged with Possession of a Schedule II CDS: Adderal after an investigation confirmed Jeanell did not possess a prescription for the medication. Janielle remains in the Acadia Parish Jail pending bond.

On August 31, 2018 officers respond to reports of a disturbance involving a firearm in the 300 block of North Arenas. During the investigation, Officers recovered a 9mm pistol. Royel Wheeler was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm. Royel was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail with a $50,000 bond.

On October 4, 2018, at 2:18 p.m., Rayne police officers arrested Anthony Sonnier (age 18) for Possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II (Methamphetamine). The incident occurred at 410 South Eastern Avenue, Lot 3 in Rayne. Anthony was booked without incident into the APSO Jail.

On October 9, 2018, at approximately 10:30 AM, Rayne Police Officers executed a search warrant at 608 Kathy Drive. The search of the property located Methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, marijuana seeds, and illegally obtained opiate and amphetamine pharmaceutical drugs. Officers arrested Jeanell Daigle ( age 61) for (1) count of Distribution of Schedule III Controlled Dangerous Substance (Buprenorphine). Michael Cormier (age 45) was arrested for (1) count of Possession of Schedule II CDS (Meth), Possession of Schedule III CDS (Suboxone), and Illegal Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in the Presence of a Juvenile. Kyle Daigle (age 31) was issued a citation for Simple Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The investigation is on-going with additional arrest expected in the near future. Jeanell Daigle and Michael Cormier were booked into Acadia Parish Jail pending bond. Anyone with drug related information please contact the Narcotics Division at 337-393-2924. On October 8, 2018, at approximately 8:40 AM, Rayne officers were dispatched to disturbance in the 900 block of Patricia Street. After an investigation, officers located methamphetamine, synthetic marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Officers arrested Cheryl Cormier (30) for Possession of Schedule II (Methamphetamine), Possession of Schedule I (Synthetic Marijuana), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and violation of a controlled dangerous substance in drug free/school zone. Kaliste Matthews (39) and Gardinal Hulin (30) were both arrested for Possession of Schedule II (Methamphetamine) and violation of a controlled dangerous substance in drug free/school zone. All three individuals were booked into Acadia Parish Jail pending bond.

On September 29, 2018, Rayne police officers arrested Anthony Sonnier (18) for Prohibited Acts - Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession with the intent to distribute schedule I – Marijuana and Possession with the intent to distribute schedule I – Psilocybin. Sonnier was booked into the APSO Jail without incident.

On September 24, 2018, Rayne police officers arrested Desiree Thibodeaux (29) for Distribution of a Schedule II CDS – Methamphetamine. As officers executed the distribution arrest warrant, Thibodeaux fled on foot in an attempt to avoid arrest. Thibodeaux was additionally charged with Resisting an Officer, Possession of Marijuana or Synthetic Cannabinoids, Sale/Possession of Legend Drug Without Prescription or Order and Prohibited Acts- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Thibodeaux was booked into the APSO Jail without further incident.

On September 11, 2018, Rayne police officers arrested Troy Kendall Harmon (32) for Possession of Synthetic Cannabis (felony grade). Harmon was booked into the APSO Jail without incident.

On September 7, 2018, the Rayne Police Department received a complaint about a suspicious vehicle. Officers responded and located the vehicle parked at a local business. After an investigation, officers arrested Marcus Hargrave (35) for Prohibited Acts Schedule II – Methamphetamine. Hargrave was booked into the APSO Jail without incident.

On September 22, 2018, Rayne police officers arrested Gerald Grogan (44) for Prohibited Acts – Schedule II (Methamphetamine). Grogan was booked into the APSO Jail without incident.

On August 29, 2018, a Rayne police officer conducted a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of Chet Stutes (58) for Prohibited Acts Schedule II – Oxycodone and Possession of Legend Drugs without a Prescription. Stutes was also issued a citation for disobeying a stop sign. Stutes was booked into APSO Jail without incident.

On August 29, 2018, a Rayne police officer conducted a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of Kayla Ann Stakes (33) for Prohibited Acts – Schedule IV (Xanax). Stakes was also issued a citation for Open Container, OMV with suspended/revoked driver’s license and no proof of insurance. Stakes was booked into the APSO jail without incident.

On August 26, 2018, Rayne police officers arrested Anthony Blunts (39) for 3 counts of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Certain Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Officers responded to a disturbance between neighbors and the investigation resulted in Blunt’s arrest. Blunt was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail without incident.

CITIZEN REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE locating a lost family Calico cat named Caroline. The pet was last seen Saturday afternoon in the area around the old Pauline Faulk Center. The cat was wearing a pink collar. Anyone with information can contact Beth (337) 257-6057 or Jonathan (337) 852-8475.

On August 16, 2018, Rayne officers went to a residence in the 600 block of S Bradford for a welfare check. Officers developed reason to believe the residence contained narcotics. Officers applied for a search warrant which was approved, and the subsequent search of the residence produced: approximately 13 grams of Methamphetamine, 8 MDMA tablets, 118 Alprazolam tablets, 78 grams of marijuana and 15 Sweat Tart candies coated with substance believed to be LSD. The Sweat Tart candies were individually wrapped with aluminum foil. Officers seized $2,043 dollars of money believed to have been derived from drug sales. Officers arrested Cynthia Lormand (57) for Possession of Methamphetamine and Obstruction of Justice. Brandon Williams (34) and Jan Michael Thomas (34) were both arrested for Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule IV CDS: Alprazolam, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I CDS: MDMA and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I CDS: LSD. In addition to these charges, Jan Michael Thomas was charged with Money derived from drug sales. All three individuals were booked into the Acadia Parish Jail pending bond.

On August 14, 2018, Rayne officers executed a narcotics search warrant in the 800 block of Second Street. Officers located an indoor marijuana grow with three cannabis plants in their early vegetative stage of the life cycle. Officers executed an additional search warrant and recovered evidence that indicates the plants were being grown for resale. Officers arrested Jana Howton (56) for Cultivation of Marijuana. Jana was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail pending bond.

Update: Tiffany Cahanin was apprehended by Rayne police officers on Friday, August 17, 2018. On July 13, 2018, the Rayne Police Department received a complainant of vehicle burglary that occurred at Frog City Travel Plaza. During the investigation officers identified Tiffany Danielle Cahanin as the suspect. Officers obtained an active arrest warrant for Tiffany for Simple Burglary of a Vehicle. On August 9, 2018, at approximately 9:30 PM, Rayne officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the 500 block of E Harrop Street. Responding officers arrested Jason Todd Doucet (44) for domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, OWI, aggravated flight from an officer and (3) counts of Aggravated assault upon a peace officer with a firearm. Jason was booked into the APSO Jail pending a $22,500 bond.

On August 7, 2018, at approximately 9:30 PM, Rayne officers were requested to respond to a local store regarding a suspected shop lifter. During the investigation, the officer seized 5.3 grams of Methamphetamine and a pharmaceutical Opiate tablet. As a result, Jim Desire Vincent (38), was arrested for an outstanding bench warrant, Possession of a Schedule II CDS - Methamphetamine and Possession of a Schedule III CDS. Vincent was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail pending bond.

UPDATE: Thanks to the public’s assistance Joshua was located late on August 9th in Duson. The Rayne Police Department is seeking information on Joshua Comeaux (34) of Rayne, LA, who has been reported missing by family members. The last known contact the family had with Joshua was on Sunday, August 5, 2018, when he was driving a white Chevrolet Suburban bearing Louisiana license plate XJZ191. Chief Carroll Stelly announced that on August 2, 2018, at 11:30 p.m., Rayne officers initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by Byron Jude Babineaux, age 34, for multiple traffic offenses. After stopping, Byron fled the scene on foot. Officers chased and apprehended Byron who was found to be in possession of a handgun and synthetic cannabis. Officers arrested Byron for the drug and weapons violation. The arresting officer issued a citation to Byron for HEADLIGHTS REQUIRED; SWITCHED LICENSE PLATE; IMPROPER DISPLAY OF A LICENSE PLATE; NO LIABILITY INSURANCE and LICENSE NOT ON PERSON. Byron Jude Babineaux was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail for the following charges: POSSESSION OF A SCHEDULE I CDS: SYNTHETIC CANNABINOID (THIRD OFFENSE – FELONY); CERTAIN FELON IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM; RESISTING AN OFFICER BY FLIGHT ON FOOT.
