Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office News

On behalf of Sheriff Jeff Wiley, Chief Deputy Bobby Webre, and the entire APSO, thank you for your service. Happy Veterans Day!

The APSO was well represented tonight at the International Special Olympics Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The mission of Special Olympics Louisiana is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people with intellectual disabilities who wish to participate, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

The road is back open

Highway is back open.

Traffic advisory: Hwy 431 near Josh Richardson Road is closed in both directions due to an 18-wheeler tanker flipped over leaking a large amount of gasoline. Please avoid the area.

Last night, APSO took some time to benefit the March of Dimes High Heels for High Hopes event. Our very own Chief Deputy Bobby Webre did a fine job serving some of the women of the APSO.

Thank you to River Parish Community College for sponsoring breakfast this morning honoring all first responders and Veterans.

Traffic advisory: East bound I-10 is completely shut down at mile marker 174 in Ascension Parish due to a major accident involving 12 vehicles with multiple critical injuries and one confirmed fatality. Please use alternate route.

Christmas Crusade program underway

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that there will be a full road closure of LA 42 on Saturday, November 10th, between 6:30am untill 5:30pm. Closures will be eastbound and westbound directions, approximately 1.2 miles west of LA 929 (east of Lavern Stafford Road). No permit or oversize loads along with emergency vehicles will be able to pass. Traffic will be detoured along AP 929 to US 61. This closure is necessary to install new subsurface drainage crossing LA 42. DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

Roadway is back open.

Road closure: Hwy 22 shut down between the railroad tracks and Astroland Subdivision due to a 18 wheeler with Sugarcane trailer overturn. Traffic should take River Road to get around. Unsure how long the road will be shut down. Join us for No Shave November. Baton Rouge Police Department and City of Gonzales Police Department and APSO have all teamed up to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

The APSO would like to remind you that Daylight Savings Time ends this Sunday, November 4 at 2 AM. Before you go to bed on Saturday, remember to turn your clocks BACK one hour as we "fall back.”

The APSO is joining neighboring parishes in participating in the No-Shave November Fundraiser. All of the monetary donations will be donated to the American Cancer Society to raise awareness and research.

Ascension Parish is under a Tornado Watch until 7am.

Boo and the Badge 2018 held at the Hickley M. Waguespack Substation and Park. Thank you to everyone who attended and thank you to our vendors. Special thanks to Ralph's Market for donating all of the candy given on behalf of the sheriff’s office. We hope everyone enjoyed the haunted house and had a safe Halloween.

Sheriff Wiley would like to remind citizens of the possibility of strong winds and thunderstorms that is expected to hit our area overnight. Please be mindful of Halloween decorations and anything that could possibly blow away with strong winds and remove them before the weather event. Continue to monitor local weather updates and as always in the event of an emergency please dial 911.

Join us tomorrow for "Boo and the Badge" at the Hickley M. Waguespack Substation and Park. We have lots of candy to give out! We have over 20 vendors for this event. Vendors are encouraged to bring a tent in case of rain!

Ascension Catholic Pre-K Community helpers week. Deputy Scott Charleville and Sgt. Larry Lejeune spoke to the Pre-K students this morning.

Message from Sheriff Wiley regarding the EA v. St. Amant game this week. Friends and sports fans, it is that time of year when ghosts and goblins invade our community and our night time becomes a dark scary time…No not Halloween….EA versus St. Amant football game…the biggest high school football rivalry week in Louisiana. Along with the great history and memories of all the great athletes, great victories and bragging rights thru the years, this revelry has all too often also brought to our community well intended “pranks” on others…sometimes it’s vandalism of a school campus that begins as good natured “fun” and results in a criminal investigation to the most popular activity....yes, toilet papering of homes in the dark of night….at the risk of sounding narrow minded, let me at least remind you that our community treasures you kids and recognizes the importance and genuine fun that this rivalry brings to these two fan bases… I only ask that in your zeal to flex your school pride, you be mindful that not everybody shares your idea of a harmless prank and that you use good judgement in your enjoyment this week….your APSO is also part of this week of good fun as many of our own are graduates of both schools and many are former players ……..….let’s all keep it clean and lawful and may the best team win….(never mind that I am an EAHS grad, class of ’69 and too old to “prank”)… Sheriff Jeff Wiley
