*****UPDATE****** On July 18, 2018 at approximately 8:30pm, the DeRidder Police department responded to a hit and run call at the Downtown Grounds Coffee Shop, 310 W. 1st Street. The owner of the shop received an alert from her security system and found that a yellow Ford F150 struck the front patio wall of the coffee shop and then left the scene headed north on US 171. On July 19, 2018, DeRidder officers received information that the driver of the pickup truck stopped at a local restaurant and paid for a take-out order. The employee observed that the driver was in a yellow Ford F150. After seeing social media posts about the incident, the police were notified by the employee. Through the course of the investigation, officers identified the driver as 60 year old James I. Martin of Rosepine, LA. With the assistance of the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office, DeRidder Officers were able to locate Martin at his residence as well as the yellow Ford truck. The truck did have damage that was consistent with the video surveillance from Downtown Grounds Coffee Shop. At approximately 8:45pm, Martin was brought to the police department where he was interviewed and then booked into the BPSO Jail on one count of Hit and Run Driving. Impairment is suspected in the incident. Investigating officers were Lt. Craig Richard, Sgt John Davidson, and Officer William Reid.

Happy 4th of July!!!
