Sunshine Bridge - Coastal Bridge has been working 24 hours a day replacing damaged rivets since Saturday. They will do this for the next day or two. We hope to have the jacking assemblies on-site by next week.

DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson and FHWA Division Administrator Charles Bollinger signed a Memorandum of Understanding today agreeing to an intent to make the Belle Chasse Bridge and Tunnel a toll project.

Over 30 innovations from DOTD employees from across the state were presented at the Innovations Showcase on the Lawn event at DOTD Headquarters today. Governor John Bel Edwards, DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson, and various state officials visited the displays that were developed to assist the Department in completing tasks that provide our workforce with the opportunity to work safer, faster, and more affordably.

Today, Governor John Bel Edwards and DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson toured the Sunshine Bridge to inspect the extent of the damage that was caused by a passing crane on a barge on Oct. 12. A press conference was held with state and local officials to discuss the timeline of the repairs. The contractor, Coastal Bridge LLC., will work 24 hours a day to replace the critical, load-bearing member and several other components. Repairs on the bridge are estimated to be completed January 2019.

DOTD’s Innovation Showcase on the Lawn is happening today from 10-2 at the headquarters building in Baton Rouge. The public is invited to stop by and see some of the many innovations DOTD employees have been working on the past 2 years.
