On July 4, 2018 at approximately 1936 hrs. The Jeanerette Police Department executed a narcotic search warrant at the residence of Jeremiah Volter located at 830 1/2 Canal Street Apt D-33. Investigators located narcotics, a stolen firearm, counterfeit currency, and Several articles of drug paraphernalia. Mr. Volter was charged with the following. Possession with the intent to distribute schedule I narcotics Marijuana 1.7 ounces. Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm Monetary Instrument Abuse Possession of Drug Paraphernalia 1st Offense (3) counts Violation of Controlled Dangerous Substance Law Drug Free Zones Illegal Carrying of Weapons in the presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance In an unrelated investigation Mr. Volter was arrested on warrants from Jeanerette Police Department for Contraband Taking To/From Penal Institution and Obstruction of Justice. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for assistance in locating an inmate that has escaped from the Parish Jail. **See below for original post and photo from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.** The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office advises the escape of an inmate from the Parish Jail. Deputies are currently searching for the inmate. The inmate has been identified as Jeremy Anthony Perez of 513 Lake Dauterive Rd, New Iberia. Perez is described as a white male 25 years old, 5'11" 143lbs with brown eyes and blonde hair. The inmate was last wearing green colored jail clothing. Perez was incarcerated at the jail on the following charges: * Aggravated Flight from an officer * No license/ driver must be licensed * Careless operation * Possession of marijuana * Possession of drug paraphernalia Bond was set at $6,750. St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum advises that 3 of the 4 escaped inmates have been apprehended With assistance from the local agencies, one of the escapees, 40-year-old William Deans was located in Morgan City, LA, during the early morning hours of Monday. Two other inmates, 28-year-old Jamie Scarbrough and 18-year-old Tanner Scarbrough were located and apprehended by the Picayune Police Department in Picayune, Mississippi. They remain there, awaiting extradition. The Sheriff’s Office will continue its pursuit of the remaining escapee 24-year-old Elias Todd. The department has numerous leads and asks the citizens to continue to send its tips via the Sheriff’s social media sites or by telephone. In addition, the following subjects were arrested as a result of the investigation: 26-year-old Brooke Mcmanus on the charge of assisting escape 49-year-old Bonita Federer on the charge of assisting escape 22-year-old Brandon Collier on the charge of assisting escape 37-year-old William Haff on the charge of assisting escape Sheriff Anslum wishes to thank all the law enforcement agencies who assisted in this effort. In addition the Sheriff thanks the citizens of St. Mary Parish who provided numerous tips that assisted in the capture of the inmates.

Kudos to the investigators of the Jeanerette Police Department and Jeanerette City Marshal’s Office.

On May 14, 2018 at 1935 hrs the Jeanerette Police Department along with assistance from Jeanerette City Marshal’s Office executed a narcotic search warrant at the residence of Lenny Matthews. Upon searching the residence investigators located 3.3 ounces of suspected marijuana, 29,600.00 of counterfeit United States Currency, and several items of drug paraphernalia. Lenny was properly charge with: Possession with the intent to distribute schedule I narcotics Marijuana. Monetary Instrument Abuse. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia 1st Offense. Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in the presence of persons under 17 years of age. Lenny was booked into the city jail and later transported to Iberia Parish Jail

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is expecting a cold front to approach the region tomorrow. By Wednesday afternoon and through Wednesday night, there will be a slight risk for strong to severe thunderstorms across most of our region. In addition, heavy rain will be a threat as well, with some places seeing 3 to 5 inches of rain. In the locations that see the heaviest rain, expect to see some street flooding. Area rivers will likely rise into minor to moderate flood status later this week, depending on exactly where the heaviest rains fall.

Yesterday, Iberia Parish broke records with low temperatures! Below is the statistics for New Iberia. The average temperature on January 17th is between 43 and 63 degrees Fahrenheit. The old record low was set at 21 degrees Fahrenheit on January 17, 1977. Yesterday, a new low was set when New Iberia reached temperatures of 17 degrees Fahrenheit! (Wind chill made these temperatures feel much colder. Media reports wind chill made it feel like -1 degrees Fahrenheit.) If you thought it was cold, remember that the low in Anchorage, Alaska was 24 degrees. The low in New York City was 22 degrees. The low in Boston was 31 degrees. We have one more nights of temperatures below freezing so don't let your guard down!
