HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! Keep your children safe from sex offenders!!! Per Louisiana law: §313. Wearing of masks, hoods, or other facial disguises in public places prohibited E. Every person convicted of or who pleads guilty to a sex offense specified in R.S. 24:932, is prohibited from using or wearing a hood, mask or disguise of any kind with the intent to hide, conceal or disguise his identity on or concerning Halloween, Mardi Gras, Easter, Christmas, or any other recognized holiday for which hoods, masks, or disguises are generally used. §313.1. Distributing candy or gifts on Halloween and other public holidays by "sex offenders" prohibited A. It shall be unlawful for any person convicted of or who pleads guilty to a sex offense specified in R.S. 24:932 to distribute candy or other gifts to persons under eighteen years of age on or concerning Halloween, Mardi Gras, Easter, Christmas, or any other recognized holiday for which generally candy is distributed or other gifts given to persons under eighteen years of age. Pre-Night Out Against Crime Neighborhood Events are a great way to meet and talk to officers about issues affecting your community. Join us in your neighborhood as we prepare for the National Night Out Against Crime. The neighborhood events are from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks will be served. We will have train rides and a space walk for the kids. October 1st- Mississippi St. & Texas St. October 2nd- Avenue I & 6th October 3rd- 1200 Avenue D October 4th- Chipley St. & 13th October 5th- Homewood Pl. October 8th- 800 Avenue D (Catfish Bourgeois Park) The National Night Out Against Crime main event will be held on Tuesday October 16th from 6:00 pm till 9:00 pm at the Farmers Market. Join us for food, drinks, and live music. Department equipment will be on display and we will be conducting live demonstrations throughout the event. Hope to see ya'll there!

On Wednesday, 06/06/2018 Westwego Police Narcotics Detectives conducted a traffic stop in the 800 block of Avenue A, in Westwego. Upon coming in contact with the driver, identified as 39 year-old Preston Volpi of Marrero, LA, Detectives detected a strong odor of marijuana from within the vehicle. Detectives observed a container appearing to have marijuana inside, and upon field testing, confirmed the presence of marijuana. Volpi was taken into custody, and upon pat down for officers safety, a large amount of cash was located in Volpi's pocket. A search of Volpi's vehicle revealed a large quantity of marijuana in the trunk and a large quantity of prescription pills located within the vehicle. In total, Detectives seized nearly $7,000.00 in cash, 222 grams of marijuana, 6 Oxymorphone pills, 15 Amphetamine pills, 21 Oxcycodone pills, and 72 Alprazolam (Xanax) pills. Volpi was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for Possession of Marijuana, 4 counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute, and 3 outstanding attachments.

What a special tribute. New Jersey Police Officer Michael Lampf rode his bike from New Jersey to Washington DC with Law Enforcement United in honor of fallen Westwego Police Officer Michael Louviere. Thank you Officer Lampf for riding in honor of our fallen Officer!

Heads up for drivers - - We've been advised that the Union Pacific will be working on the rail crossing on Louisiana Street in Westwego on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. The rail crossing will be closed to traffic throughout the day.

*** PLEASE TAKE NOTE *** Filming will be taking place tonight, 03/07/2018 in the City of Westwego. Intermittent road closures on 4th Street from the area of 4th Street and Avenue A, to 4th Street and Avenue F (east and westbound) are likely to occur. There will be additional police presence in these areas providing security and traffic control for this event. The approximate time frame for the intermittent road closures is between 5:30 P.M. and 9:30 P.M. Please take note of this and make prior arrangements accordingly to take an alternate route. (via - River Rd. or West Bank Expressway) Residents who live in the area, and are familiar with the city streets should take note, that 5th Street between Avenue A and Avenue F, east and westbound will be OPEN. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

This little guy was found at the corner of 4th street and Avenue E. If anyone is missing him or knows who's dog this is, he was brought to the police station. We can only keep him here a short time before we have to call Animal Control to come pick him up. ****UPDATE**** The owner was located and was reunited with her pup. Thanks to everyone who shared.
