Happy 243rd Birthday to the United States Marine Corps! Semper Fidelis!

At about 9:30 last night a 34 year old man was arrested at Somerset-Berkley Regional High School. The man was a custodian at the school. Miguel Pereira of Somerset is being charged with dissemination of child pornography and possession of child pornography. He has been employed by the school department for only a few weeks. The investigation into this case began with investigators from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force locating child pornography being shared from the suspect’s IP address. A search warrant was executed at his home prior to his arrest. He will be arraigned at the Fall River Justice Center later today.

Tonight at 6:30 there will be an event held at the Council on Aging on Wood St. Clinicians and recovery coaches will be present to educate and answer questions. The training provided by these volunteers will include overdose prevention strategies, signs and symptoms of overdose, individual/family recovery support services, and Section 35 advocacy. This is free and no registration is required.

Yesterday the Somerset Police Department was fortunate to be awarded $18,802.00 for the “Governor’s Local Law Enforcement Equipment and Technology “ grant opportunity from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Program offered by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPPS), Office of Grants and Research (OGR). This money will be used to purchase state of the art portable radios which will allow our officers to communicate within our community and when responding to assist other communities in emergency situations.

Tonight the Somerset Board of Selectmen appointed Eric Lewandoski as a full-time police officer. Eric is a 12 year veteran of policing and an 8 year veteran of the US Army Military Police. He has won several awards as a police officer, including Mother’s Against Drunk Driving, Waterford CT Officer of the Year, and a Certificate of Recognition from the Department of Justice. He worked in Waterford, CT but resides in Rehoboth. We know Eric will be an excellent addition to the SPD. Congratulations Officer Lewandoski!!!
