It is with great sorrow that the West Springfield Police announces the passing of retired Sgt. Gerard P. Connor Jr. “Gerry” worked at the department from May of 1966 until his retirement of August 2007. He worked in both the patrol and detective division but he will best be remembered for his work in the Traffic bureau where he was able to assist so many people. He was a valuable resource to Chief McNamara and Chief Burke who appreciated his ability to “get things done”. He cherished his family and friends and will be deeply missed. Rest in peace Gerry

Notice WSPD will not be processing any new LTC’s or renewals until the week of Oct. 22nd. Per Chief Duffy.

SCAM Alert, “Publisher’s Clearing House” scheme. Recently an elderly citizen received a phone call from an “876” area code (Kingston, Jamaica) claiming to be from “Publisher’s Clearing House”. The caller informed the targeted victim that he had won, but the target would need to purchase a $500 Amazon.com gift card and read the SCU # over the phone to the “Publisher’s Clearing House representative”, in order to process the winning prize money. The target instead of purchasing the card, took $500 in cash from their bank account and informed the “representative” of this, who stated that “representative” would come to their residence to receive the $500. The target then notified relatives who immediately recognized this as a SCAM and contacted the Police. NO representative ever arrived at the targets home and no money was lost. The WSPD once again reminds the public to be vigilant in these matters and to look out for each other, especially the elderly. The elderly often have difficulty comprehending this type of scam, and how easy they can be targeted. “See Something, Say Something”!
