Excellent job by two of our staff with making this little guy's day and showing him the inside and out of one of our patrol cars! Auxiliary Officer Alec Bosley (l) and PFC Jason Kirkner (r) took time out of their schedules to make this little guy's day! We are very proud of them!

Proud to be participating in this most-worthwhile event next week! Please come join us if you can!

On behalf of the Sykesville Police Department, we would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the Baltimore County Police Department as well as the family and friends of Officer Amy Caprio, who was tragically and senselessly killed in the Line of Duty yesterday while serving the citizens of Baltimore County. May she rest in peace!

We are very thankful to the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce for recognizing three of our staff today at their 2nd Annual Public Safety Awards ceremony in Westminster. Officer Eric Almenas was nominated for a Life Saving Award, PFC Jason Kirkner was nominated for a Distinguished Achievement Award, and Auxiliary Lieutenant Kevin Cox was nominated for and recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award. Unfortunately, PFC Kirkner and Lieutenant Cox were unable to attend. Pictured below are (L-R): Photo #1 - Sergeant Kilgore, Chief Spaulding, Officer Almenas, Mayor Ian Shaw; Photo #2 - Sergeant Kilgore, Chief Spaulding, Heather Cox (accepting on behalf of Lieutenant Cox), Town Manager Aretha Adams, Mayor Shaw.

10th Annual Sykesville Police Department Jr. CSI Program

I was so proud to have our very own Mr. Tim Weber of the Carroll County State's Attorney's Office present at our Maryland Municipal League Police Executive Association annual training conference in Ocean City last week. It was great to showcase the fine work he is doing here locally with regard to treatment for opioid users. As always, Tim did an excellent job with his presentation. Thanks goes to our State's Attorney, Brian DeLeonardo for allowing Tim to spend some time with us. Great job, Tim. Keep up the great work!

Please contact the Carroll County Sheriff's Office if you have any information about the identity of this person.

The Sykesville Police Department will be participating in this event. Our lobby will be open on Saturday April 28 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm so that any used medications can be dropped off in our collection box. As a reminder, no needles, liquids, or epi-pens will be accepted - only unused pills can be dropped off.

Please contact the Maryland State Police if you have any information about these suspects or this crime.

Just another reminder that April is Distracted Driving Awareness month. Our officers will be joining officers across the State in aggressively enforcing this law so please, park the cell phone when you get behind the wheel!

PFC Betcher made a friend at the Easter Egg hunt in Cooper Park this past weekend. The young future officer wanted to get his photo taken with PFC Betcher, which PFC Betcher readily agreed to. Great job, Nick!

Great information for anyone interested in being better prepared for a major emergency!

SCAM ALERT! We were made aware today of a similar scam, as described below, in which an Eldersburg resident received a telephone call from the Sykesville Police Department, stating that there is an arrest warrant for the resident and instructing them to call the "US Legal Support Line" at 844-335-1076 to resolve the matter. The caller, who had a foreign accent, also provided the resident with a case number (P742937). THIS IS A SCAM! The Police will NEVER call you and threaten you with an arrest warrant and require you to call another number or pay money over the telephone or internet. Please follow the advice in the below article and always feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the legitimacy of a telephone call from our Police Department.

Please contact the Maryland State Police, Westminster Barrack, if you have any information about the person or vehicle in these photos.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness month. Please see below info and help us reduce the number of injuries and deaths by putting down your cell phone while operating a vehicle.

Please contact the Westminster Police Department if you have any information regarding the identity of this bank robbery suspect.

A good first step here in Carroll County. The Sykesville Police Department will continue to work closely with the Sykesville Middle School to ensure that the faculty and staff are safe there as well.

Good information from BGE regarding the winter storm we are experiencing.

The Snow Emergency Plan for Carroll County went into effect at 9:45 am today. Please ensure all parked vehicles are removed from designated snow emergency routes. Also, The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Carroll and Frederick Counties in effect until 8 pm tonight. The Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late tonight through Wednesday evening. Please try to avoid driving if at all possible, but if it is necessary please drive with extra caution, as the roadways are very wet and slippery. Thank you for your cooperation!

Please join us in welcoming our newest officer, Eric Almenas, who was sworn-in by Mayor Shaw on Monday February 26th. Officer Almenas is a U.S. Veteran and an experienced police officer, and we are very fortunate to have him! If you see Officer Almenas on patrol, please take the time to say "hi' and welcome him to our town!
