*** TRAFFIC ALERT Due to the high winds and it’s effects on traffic along US Route 40 and the closure of I95, traffic through town has increased. Prepare yourself for delays when in the area.

This evening the Rising Sun Police Department received a complaint of a male subject operating a Dodge Ram Pickup in the Vally view community, making verbal contact with a juvenile requesting to locate a lost dog. After an investigation, we have located the vehicle, the vehicle operator and the lost dog. The juvenile is currently home safe with family. The investigation is ongoing an no additional complaints of a similar nature have been received as of this time.

February 26, 2018 *** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Rising Sun, Maryland Today, Officers from the Rising Sun Police Department responded to an incident at the Rising Sun Middle School. The incident involved a student who made numerous statements involving school violence. The incident was investigated thoroughly, and corrective action was taken by the school administration and law enforcement. In a second incident, the North East Police Department became aware of conversations about the threats of violence being shared on social media (Snapchat) by students of Rising Sun Middle School. Ultimately, a female juvenile that is not a student at Rising Sun Middle has been charged by North East Police Department for threats of violence to Rising Sun Middle School . The Rising Sun Police Department, Cecil County Board of Education, and law enforcement agencies throughout Cecil County are vigilant in protecting the students of Cecil County Public Schools. All threats of violence made toward our school system will be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. People involved with threats made to these institutions will be held accountable to the fullest intent of the law. In light of these two incidents today related to Rising Sun Middle School, extra officers will be on location during arrival. At this time there are no known threats to the school.
