On behalf of Deputy Dennis Sampson's family as well as us here at the sheriff's office we would like to say thank you to everyone for the amount of support, words of condolences, and stories shared with us over the past week. Dennis will surely be missed.
We would like to extend a special thank you to our staff here at the sheriff's office who stayed with Dennis throughout the week and helped make his celebration of life memorable. This was definitely a team effort that Dennis would have been proud of.Thank you also to the Auburn, Lewiston, and Mechanic Falls Police Departments and the Maine State Police for your help last Saturday and throughout the week. To the Poland, Auburn and Lewiston Fire Departments, Kevin Simoneau and his staff at The Fortin Funeral Home, and to the doctors, nurses and staff at Central Maine Medical Center. Thank you to the agencies who helped with posting guard at Dennis wake, especially the Oxford and Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and the Massachusetts State Police. To Pastor Chris Pomerleau for officiating. To Mike Cain and The Androscoggin Bank Colisee for their hospitality and generosity. To the U.S. Army, our buglers, bagpiper and Shelley Harris for singing. And finally to all the law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS, and citizens throughout the state who took time out of their busy day yesterday to attend Dennis' service and to honor a great man.
"His shoes may never be filled, but his footsteps can always be followed." Rest In Peace Dennis!
