Topsham Police Department News

The Topsham Police Department is proud to announce the retirement of Detective Mark LaFountain, shield number 350. Detective LaFountain began his career as a Summer Officer for the Kennebunkport Police Department in June 1990. In November 1991, Detective LaFountain graduated from the Vermont Police Academy and began working for the Hartford Vermont Police Department. Detective LaFountain came back to Maine on October 29, 1993 when he began with the Brunswick Police Department. In March 2006, Detective LaFountain moved over to the Topsham Police Department and today he enters retirement. Detective LaFountain's timeline does not tell his entire story. His contributions to several communities and dedication to juveniles, police training, and family are beyond words. Detective LaFountain has coached football for Mt. Ararat High School for five years, continues to referee football as well as basketball games, has been a leader and role model for athletes both on and off the fields. He has also provided leadership for police officers on SWAT Teams, as Lieutenant, FTO Supervisor, DARE Officer, and Detective. Thank you Detective Mark LaFountain for your years of service to this community and enter your retirement knowing; the Topsham Police Department will be forever grateful.

Thank you for all the responses. The female has been tentatively identified.

Over the past couple of weeks there has been a sheep roaming all over town. The sheep does have an ear tag, but has not allowed anyone to catch it. If you see the sheep, please give us a call.

Come on by McDonald’s and say hello to these guys. They’ll be there until 9:00!

UPDATE: On Tuesday, Kaleb Brooks, age 22 of Brunswick, was identified as the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash at 680 River Rd. early Sunday. He was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, and sustained a non-life threatening injury. There were no passengers in his car, the other male and female apparently had stopped to check on him. He has been charged with 1) Driving to Endanger; and, 2) Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident. #TPD207

We're hiring!

It’s not just in our country. Please keep our neighbors in New Brunswick in your thoughts tonight.

Another phone scam is making the rounds. The caller threatens to report you to the local police if you don't return their calls. Best course of action is to delete the message, or end the call. These calls are not legitimate. #TPD207

Great post from Waterville P.D.:

It is with deep sadness that the Topsham Police Department regrets to announce the passing of their beloved retired K9 Marco. Marco passed away today, Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the age of 13 years. He served the town of Topsham with distinction for 10 years alongside his partner, Sergeant Robert Ramsay. Marco’s loyalty and service will be greatly missed, and our thoughts go out to Sgt. Ramsay and his family who lost a cherished member of their home. He was as much a part of their family as he was ours.

We made #4 this year.

Happy Retirement to our receptionist Barbara Hall after 32 years of service to Topsham! #HappyTrails
