News Release June 21, 2018 June 4th – June 10th Total: 55 Assists to Other Agencies: 8 Breaking & Entering Complaints: 1 Larceny Complaints: 3 Fraud Complaints: 1 Malicious Destruction of Property Complaints: 1 Domestic Violence Complaints: 1 Abuse / Neglect Complaints: 1 City Ordinance Violation Complaints: 1 Animal Control Complaints: 3 Juvenile Complaints: 1 Disturbances: 4 Suspicious Situations: 3 Alarms: 2 General Assists: 11 Motorist Assists: 1 Traffic Accidents: 3 Miscellaneous Arrests: 10 On June 5th Officers were dispatched to a local business for a larceny in progress. Officers arrived on scene and found that a male subject was stealing scrap metal from the business. The property was returned to the business and the complaint will be forwarded to the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office. On June 7th Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a defective equipment violation. An investigation led to the arrest of a 22-year-old Grand Rapids man for Operating Without Insurance. On June 8th Officers made contact with a subject at a local service station that had an outstanding warrant from the Grayling Department of Public Safety. The 23-year-old Grayling woman was arrested on the 4 Count warrant for Retail Fraud – Third Degree. She was lodged at the Crawford County Jail. On June 9th Officers received a complaint of a possible intoxicated driver. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop for multiple motor vehicle code violations. An investigation was completed and subsequently the driver, a 35-year-old Grayling woman, was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated and Operating Without Insurance. She was lodged at the Crawford County Jail. On June 9th Officers were dispatched to an assault that had taken place in a vehicle while traveling on a City street. An investigation led to the arrest of a 17-year-old Grayling man for 3 Counts of Domestic Assault against his family members. He was subsequently lodged at the Crawford County Jail.

This past weekend Grayling Public Safety participated with Jackson county Fire Departments in School Bus Rescue Training. The class consisted of bus construction, stabilizing bus on wheels and its side, creating side and roof openings and Triage, package and removal of patients.

On 12 June 18 Members of GPS, took advantage of a great opportunity to train with the US Army, on a MA-TV up armored vehicle. The training consisted of disassembling the MA-TV to gain access to injured soldiers.

The driver of the vehicle, a 33-year-old Mio man, was arrested for Driving While License Suspended as well as 3 warrants that he had for his arrest. One of these warrants was out of the Crawford County 87th District Court and the other two were out of two other jurisdictions. He was lodged at the Crawford County Jail. On May 28th Officers were advised that another jurisdiction in Northern Michigan had arrested a subject that had a Felony warrant for her arrest out of the Grayling Department of Public Safety stemming from a case in 2013. Officers picked up the 39-year-old Louisiana woman and lodged her at the Crawford County Jail on her warrant. On June 1st Officers made contact with a 19-year-old Grayling man at a residence in the City. The subject had a warrant for his arrest out of the Crawford County 87-C District Court. After attempting to evade Officers, he was subsequently arrested and lodged at the Crawford County Jail on his warrant. On June 2nd Officers made contact with a 31-year-old Grayling man at a local business. The subject had a Felony warrant for his arrest out of a neighboring jurisdiction. He was subsequently arrested on his warrant and taken to the county line where he was turned over to the other jurisdiction. On June 2nd Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a defective equipment violation. The driver, a 50-year-old Flint woman, was subsequently arrested for Driving While License Suspended. On June 2nd Officers received dispatch information about a possibly intoxicated driver. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle for having an improper license plate. An investigation led to the arrest of the driver, a 27-year-old Lapeer man, for Operating While Intoxicated, Possession of Marijuana and Operating an Unregistered Vehicle. He was lodged at the Crawford County Jail.

News Release June 7, 2018 May 21st – May 27th Total: 30 Assists to Other Agencies: 12 Breaking & Entering Complaints: 1 Larceny Complaints: 1 Assault Complaints: 1 Civil Complaints: 2 Animal Control Complaints: 1 Juvenile Complaints: 2 Disturbances: 1 Suspicious Situations: 1 Alarms: 3 General Assists: 2 Traffic Accidents: 1 Miscellaneous Arrests: 2 On May 22nd Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding. Subsequently the driver, a 36-year-old Cadillac woman, was arrested for Driving While License Suspended. She was lodged at the Crawford County Jail. On May 23rd Officers were dispatched to fight in progress in the parking lot of a local business. An investigation was completed and evidence showed that an assault had taken place as well as Malicious Destruction of Property. The report will be forwarded to the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office for charges. On May 27th Officers along with the Grayling Fire Department responded to two fires in Grayling Township. The first fire was a vehicle fire at a local service station. There were no injuries reported and the vehicle was described as a total loss. The second fire was described as a large grass fire that was spreading quickly towards residences. No structures were damaged from the fire. The Grayling Fire Department was assisted by the Michigan DNR with suppression efforts. On May 27th Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding. An investigation led to the arrest of the driver, a 21-year-old Mancelona man, for an outstanding Felony Warrant from another jurisdiction. He was lodged at the Crawford County Jail.

The 17-year-old Roscommon man was arrested and lodged at the Crawford County Jail on a 5-count warrant for Assault & Battery stemming from an ongoing investigation. On May 17 Officers made contact with a wanted fugitive. The 29-year-old Mio man was arrested on warrants from several agencies, including a Felony warrant out of the Crawford County 87th District Court. He was lodged at the Crawford County Jail.

UPDATE: Robert has been located. He is alive and well. He is at Munson Hospital for dehydration and some other issues. He survived five nights and six days out in the elements.

News Release May 24, 2018 May 7th – May 13th Total: 50 Assists to Other Agencies: 13 Fraud Complaints: 2 Larceny Complaints: 1 Abuse / Neglect Complaints: 1 Juvenile Complaints: 2 Civil Complaints: 1 Animal Control Complaints: 3 Alarms: 1 Disturbances: 1 Suspicious Situations: 3 General Assists: 10 Traffic Crashes: 2 Miscellaneous Arrests: 10 On May 07 Officers were requested by a surrounding county to attempt to locate two wanted fugitives that had several warrants for their arrest. Officers were able to locate the two subjects hiding in a residence in the City. The 27-year-old Grayling woman and the 29-year-old Grayling man were arrested and lodged at the Crawford County Jail. On May 12 Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a defective equipment violation. An investigation led to the arrest of the driver, a 32-year-old Prudenville man, for Operating Without Insurance and Driving While License Suspended. He was lodged at the Crawford County Jail.

UPDATE: This dog (named Tyson) was last seen on N. Down River Rd in Grayling, Crawford County on 5/21/18. Otsego County Animal Control is working with Crawford County Animal Control in trying to locate him. If you see him please contact one of these departments. Members of Grayling Public Safety had a busy weekend of training. Some Members trained with Beaver Creek, Lovells, Lyons and Frederic fire Departments in Vehicle Extraction. While others trained with Marquette Fire Department on train tanker car derailment with hazardous materials. These training events help us to become more knowledgeable and better prepared to deal with these types of incidents in our community.

News Release May 17, 2018 April 30th – May 6th Total: 34 Assists to Other Agencies: 9 Assault Complaints: 1 Breaking & Entering Complaints: 1 Fraud Complaints: 1 Larceny Complaints: 4 Violation of Public Health Code Complaints: 1 Civil Complaints: 1 Alarms: 1 General Assists: 11 Motorist Assists: 1 Traffic Crashes: 3 The Grayling Department of Public Safety for the sixth year in a row has participated in being a prescription drug take back location partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). On April 30, 100 pounds of prescription medications that were collected from the secure and anonymous drug drop box located at the Grayling City Hall were turned over to the DEA. The Grayling Department of Public Safety would like to remind citizens of this service but that it is only for people to dispose of their unwanted/unused and expired medications. On May 02 Officers along with the Grayling Fire Department assisted the Beaver Creek Township Fire Department and the Department of Natural Resources with a wildland fire along I-75 in Beaver Creek Township. A portion of I-75 was shut down during the suppression efforts. The fire was estimated to be approximately 44 acres in size. On May 03 Officers were dispatched to the area of the Grayling Elementary School for an assault. An investigation was conducted and charges are being sought on the suspect through the Crawford County Probate Court.

News Release May 10, 2018 April 23rd – April 29th Total: 21 Assists to Other Agencies: 7 Assault Complaints: 1 Breaking & Entering Complaints: 1 City Ordinance Violation Complaints: 2 Civil Complaints: 1 Suspicious Situations: 1 General Assists: 4 Miscellaneous Arrests: 4 On Apr. 28 Officers were dispatched to a reckless vehicle which was described as being all over the road. Officers were also advised that the driver had exited the vehicle in the middle of an intersection and started dancing. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. An investigation led to the arrest of the 48-year-old Alba woman for Operating Under the Influence of Drugs. On Apr. 29 Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for multiple motor vehicle code violations. An investigation led to the arrest of a 27-year-old Flint woman for Operating Without Insurance. She was lodged at the Crawford County Jail. On Apr. 29 Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a motor vehicle code violation. An investigation led to the arrest of a 36-year-old Grayling man for Operating Under the Influence of Drugs and Possession of Marijuana. He was lodged at the Crawford County Jail.

News Release May 3, 2018 April 16th – April 22nd Total: 29 Assists to Other Agencies: 12 Assault Complaints: 1 Larceny Complaints: 1 Fraud Complaints: 1 Disturbances: 1 Traffic Crashes: 1 General Assists: 6 Miscellaneous Arrests: 6 On Apr. 19 Officers coordinated with the Michigan State Police Fugitive Team to have a 33-year-old Gaylord man arrested on an outstanding warrant stemming from an ongoing investigation. The subject was arrested and lodged at the Crawford County Jail on charges of Domestic Violence and Assault With Intent To Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder Or By Strangulation. On Apr. 21 Officers were dispatched to a report of a reckless vehicle that had intentionally rammed another vehicle. An investigation led to the arrest of a 27-year-old Grayling man for Felonious Assault. He was lodged at the Crawford County Jail.

News Release April 26, 2018 April 9th – April 15th Total: 24 Assists to Other Agencies: 7 Abuse / Neglect Complaints: 1 Embezzlement Complaints: 1 Traffic Crashes: 4 Civil Complaints: 2 Motorist Assists: 1 General Assists: 6 Miscellaneous Arrests: 2 On Apr. 15 Officers were dispatched to a vehicle in the ditch near the Southbound I-75 on ramp. An investigation led to the arrest of a 51-year-old Detroit man for an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction. He was lodged at the Crawford County Jail. On Apr. 15 Officers made contact with a 49-year-old Grayling woman in reference to an outstanding warrant from the 87-C District Court. She was subsequently arrested and lodged at the Crawford County Jail.

News Release April 19, 2018 April 2nd – April 8th Total: 32 Assists to Other Agencies: 10 Assault Complaints: 1 Larceny Complaints: 1 Fraud Complaints: 1 PPO Violation Complaints: 2 Alarms: 1 Traffic Crashes: 2 Civil Complaints: 2 Motorist Assists: 1 Suspicious Situations: 2 General Assists: 7 Miscellaneous Arrests: 2 On Apr. 03 Officers made contact with a 36-year-old Grayling man in reference to an ongoing assault investigation. The subject was arrested and lodged at the Crawford County Jail on a warrant for Assault & Battery. On Apr. 04 Officers coordinated with the Michigan State Police to have a 57-year-old Grayling man arrested on a Felony warrant for Possession of Marijuana stemming from an ongoing investigation. On Apr. 07 Officers were dispatched to the Grayling Munson ER for an assault complaint involving several staff members being assaulted by a patient. The complaint remains open and charges are being sought through the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office.
