Information Regarding Your Driver’s License Sheriff Parker would like all Hillsdale County residents to know of important information regarding your driver’s license effective October 1st 2018 for all State of Michigan residents. Beginning October 1, 2018, the state will eliminate all existing Driver Responsibility fees (DRF) and will no longer collect the fees. The repeal of the DRF law allows a driver to apply for reinstatement of their driving privileges provided they are otherwise entitled to reinstatement. If you have an unexpired Michigan license and do not have any open action(s), such as a license suspension, denial, or revocation on or after October 1, 2018, your driving privileges are restored as of October 1. The $125 standard reinstatement fee is waived and there is no need to visit a Secretary of State office. If your Michigan driver’s license is expired and it has been less than four years since you had a valid driver’s license, you must renew your license either online or at a Secretary of State office before you may drive. The $125 standard reinstatement fee is waived for DRF suspensions through December 31, 2018. As noted above, if you have an open suspension or revocation, do not attempt to renew your license as it will be denied. Additional driver’s license information may be found at the Renewing Driver's License page. If you have any questions about this please contact any Michigan Secretary of State Office.

Text message, Phone and Email Scams Sheriff Parker wants all residents to be alert and cautious of the most recent “Text Messaging”, “Phone” and “Email Scams” Hillsdale County residents are receiving. Hillsdale County Courts and local Law Enforcement have received numerous complaints in the past few weeks of a new “Text Messaging” scam where individuals are receiving text messages advising them they need to pay a fee (for a ticket they received or court fee etc.) or they will be arrested. This is not true and will never be true, the Courts or Law Enforcement will never send you a text message advising you of such. “Phone scams” and “Email scams” are also very frequent and becoming a huge problem for county residents. Sheriff Parker advises offenders creating these phone scams are using “local” phone numbers to our area, in an attempt to get more residents to answer their phone and scam residents out of money. Sheriff Parker reminds residents, DO NOT ever give out your personal information and/or bank account information over the phone or online in any way (via text, phone conversation or email). No Court, Law Enforcement or Government entity will ever text you, call you or email you to tell you, you owe them money or that you have a warrant for your arrest and demand money from you immediately. DO NOT EVER GIVE ANYONE MONEY OVER THE PHONE OR ONLINE. If you have doubt that the text, phone call or email might be a scam it more than likely is.
